Skysports.com understands Steve Sidwell is on the verge of a dream move to Chelsea.

The dynamic midfielder is scheduled to undergo a medical at Chelsea at Monday ahead of a proposed move to Stamford Bridge.

Sidwell is not expected to feature for Reading in their final game of the season against Blackburn on Sunday as he prepares himself for his medical tests at Chelsea.

A number of clubs have been chasing Sidwell, who is available on a free transfer, after turning down a new deal at Reading.

However, it appears Chelsea have won the race for his signature in beating off interest from the likes of Newcastle, Everton and Middlesbrough.

Should Sidwell seal his move to Chelsea he will become Jose Mourinho's first signing of the summer.

Just what they need, another central midfielder.

And an average one at that. Really don't understand that. Essien, Lampard, Ballck, Mikel, Diarra - would he figure above many of them if any? Ballack/Lampard might be off

Would it be bizarre if he came from abroad?

he's a fair player but if he gets into double figures interms of starts for them next season, I'll be amazed.

Still he's probably increased his wages tenfold.

Yes. Chelsea signing a middle of the road player for a position they are already overloaded in. Its not about nationality.

Why is he a middle of the road player exactly?

Looks pretty good to me.

I would say that Jose is trying to do a very Rafaesque signing. If he's still there next season. Hope it doesn't pay off though...

Isn't there a chance Lampard will be scoring deflected goals in the Nou Camp next season?

To be fair, that is almost as bizzare as the chavs signing Sidwell. Lampard is nowhere near good enough to improve Barca's midfield

I disagree, at Barca he could concentrate at what he's good at, which is getting into the box and into goalscoring positions, then getting back goal-side and competing. He'd not have tihe burden of creativity that he's not really cut out for but has to bear for Chelsea or England, they've plenty of others to move the ball about, I think he'd add another dimentsion to their samey midfield.
