I think Taylor's biggest issues are in terms of discipline.

 

My only question mark would be that he's been sent off too often in his fairly short career, but for me Rafa would sort that out, and he'll probably mature over the next few years in that sense anyway the way Gerrard did.

 

In terms of ability I really like him, I think he's got the potential to be similar to John Terry as his game is quite similar. Very strong lad, brave, powerful in the air, a good motivator and dangerous attacking set pieces.

 

If we could sign him for £5m I'd let Sami go, and it's a real wrench for me ot say that. With his age and ability but also having good Premier League experience he'd be ideal to replace our ageing legend in the rotation.

 

I'd only let Hyypia (who is still very relaible) go for the right young player, and for me Taylor could be exactly that if we could get him for the right price.

Well to be fair 'in the know people' on various sites have indicated that Rafa rates him extremely highly. Even before he first broke into the Newcastle first team Taylor was mentioned.

If we were to buy him in Jan I'd still like us to keep hold of Sami until the end of the season as that would give us the strength in the CB area we need going into the business end of the season.

Dunno if it has been mentioned before but some papers are claiming that Steven Taylor has refused a new contract at Newcastle due to Liverpool's interest in him. A 5m bid will be made. In January?
