SkippyjonJones Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 The results from the last 2 days are huge.Prize money is not insignificant but of more importance is the TV money from Europe. Its split between the clubs based upon a ratio of how much money each country contributes to the tv pool and also upon where each club finished in the league the previous season. Up until and including the QF stage we were getting 15% (roughly) of the pool allocated to the English clubs left in the competition ? with Arsenal removed we got that moved to about 18%. (they were on 15% as well so that was redistributed along the same lines as the other funds). Now we are the only team left from England we get the lions share of the TV money ? and its all to ourselves for the final. Could make a huge difference in the potential signings for the summer. Nice to know. More importantly? BRING ON MILAN?. 96 & 21?
fyds Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I know many will disagree, but apart from seriously stupid money of an Abramovich year one and two nature, I don't think funds for new players is going to be a problem for us anymore and yesterday Tom Hicks went as far as he felt he could in saying so.

New TV deal, new sponsorship deal, new ground on the way , CL run, lots to speculate with...
fyds Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 New TV deal, new sponsorship deal, new ground on the way , CL run, lots to speculate with...True, but I meant that aside, G&H were always going to make sure this summer money was never going to be a problem.

I think I must have missed it, have you got a link?
fyds Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 He was being interviewed on SSN, and was being pressed about how much Rafa would have to spend in the summer, he paused for a moment and said something approximating 'I don't want to just put a number on, give anyone a figure - that wouldn't be the right thing...''Will Liverpool be able to compete in the transfer market with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United?''Oh yes - Rafa will be competing...eating at the top table'

Its a financial 6 pointer 10 million to us instead of the mancs narrows the gap by 20 million. plus the prize money for winning of course
Mr Makaveli Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 True, but I meant that aside, G&H were always going to make sure this summer money was never going to be a problem. It's alwaysnice to have piles of cash coming in to the club.
Guest Scot Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Can we sign Kaka then please ? That would be incredible. Particularly if it's on May 2nd.
Ginu Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Can we sign Kaka then please ? best in the world surely... 10 goals in 11 CL games
Maldini Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Anyone know how that case against Reebok is going? That £7m would be handy in the summer.
The_MC Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 It's great for longer term finances too i reckon. Hicks and Gillett want to make our brand stronger in order to increase revenue flows to the club... getting to the Champions league final again surely makes their job easier; instant worldwide audience, worldwide recognition as a big power in Europe, further exposure to the far East to gain bigger fan base. Pefect launchpad for their marketing team to work on the global brand thing methinks. The extra dough is obviously good for spending in the transfer market too, but the fact we're there again should also encourage big name signings to join us, seeing as we're such a consistently strong side. Happy days
growler Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 as an aside, if win it, we not only get 30% next season, we won't have to qualify, meaning we have a better pre-season, perhaps a money spinning tour. An added benefit of winning it, is that 2nd place have to qualify!! :-) that would a perfect kick in the teeth for chelsea
Guest Greasy Belcher Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I'm a glass half empty kind of bloke... Our exposure to Asia will just mean millions of counterfeit shirts on sale for a quid in Thai market places. The world top players wont be comming unless we employ house sitters for them during matches. G&H sounds like GH stevie will be off soon if rafa keeps playing him on the right....... right
fyds Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 he never said that at all.Well, that's as close to what he said as I can recall.
John am Rhein Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Is that definite about Chelsea having to qualify? No. It'll be Man United who have to qualify.
growler Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 we get two spots straight in and 2 3rd round qualifiers. If we win, we go straight in, and the 2nd place team have to qualify
trowie Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Well, that's as close to what he said as I can recall.and as close as I can remember
honourablegeorge Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 he never said that at all. His did confirm, in response to a question, that Rafa would be in a position to buy the very top players. I can't remember the exact quote, or how it was said, but he certainyl did confirm it.
Flight Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I didn't hear him asked if we would be able to compete with specific other clubs but asked about Rafa and transfer funds I clearly remember Hicks saying we would be eating at the top table. It was the same SSN article yesterday where they spotted him wearing LFC socks, while they were talkign to him. In my opinion, Rafa will get the funds for anyone he wants in world football. Thats based on a series of facts : i) how underdeveloped our business and marketing strategy is and their obviously intent on sorting that out; ii) Hicks history in US sports of breaking transfer records with astronomical fees; iii) their experience of Rafa and the fans at Anfield; their desire to keep Rafa and consolidate our and his position; iv) they will have a 75,000 seater stadium to fill I'm not saying we will spend stupid money on players that won't fit in or overpriced fees. I'm saying I'd bet their approach to Rafa has been name your 3 top transfer targets and will will pursue them for you. Building on that, to play down as much as possible the fees target clubs could ask for their players all they have spoken about is being conservative and developing youth.
Gomez Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 we get two spots straight in and 2 3rd round qualifiers. If we win, we go straight in, and the 2nd place team have to qualify Wouldn't bet on it, there is plenty of time for the FA to change their rules again.
