Riise's Thunderbolt

In the second half against Wigan, Johnny Riise fired one of his thunderbolt shots towards the Anfield Road end goal from about 40 yards out.

The shot must have missed the right-hand post by a yard or two. It wasn't included in the highlights on "Match of the Day."

What was remarkable about this shot, was that it was the hardest-hit shot I have ever seen in my life. I knew that I wasn't mistaken when my brother, sitting next to me, said as much himself. The ball was travelling at incredible speed.

He could have a couple more exceptional goals for his collection. The shots that hit the bar at White Hart Lane last year and at home to Chelsea this year spring immediately to mind.

It was stunning. I believe it didn't get a bigger reaction from those in the ground because it was too fast and most missed it. Riise's blasters are normally measured at approaching 70mph, this must have been 90.

I can recall Berger hitting one that was just as hard & quick. It's my favourite 'Berger-moment'.

ya his rocket would have been a great goal however he is getting way too selfish lately and is shooting far more than he should... he wasted chances today and has done recently too... fair enough he has a great foot but dont shoot when you should pass.

I'm pretty unhappy about his input lately, and I have been nothing but a Riise supporter in the past.

At least his shooting was OK today, and they weren't always the wrong option, unlike Wednesday.

Last Saturday, he couldn't even be arsed running, never mind shooting.

I expect him to be lethal against Chelsea, mind - he's working up to it.

But what about the other 6 times his shots got blocked when he could've easily played a pass and set up a team mate...

I amongst his biggest critics but thought his all round play was much better yesterday. Poor opposition that offered no threat down his flank, mind you.
