Do you think Rafa will view us as having Champions League placed wrapped up and rest all the players who will start against Chelsea.

Any word on Kewell

Posted

think he may rest a couple if he feels they need it.

More likely to be "wholesale resting" next weekend I would have thought though. Being in between the 2 legs, and only 2 free days before the 2nd leg, I wouldn't expect too many of the starters vs Chelsea to start next Saturday .

vs wigan, maybe sg and carra rested. plus one of either masch/xabi.

Could see a Zenden-Sissoko combo in centre mid.

Hyypia and Fowler are sure to start this one, aren't they?

Take the 1st team away into one room and start preping them on the Chelsea game i.e. how he thinks Chelsea will line up and what formation we'll use and how to attack and defend and then work on that on the training ground

Let Paco take the others and prepare for the Wigan game.

Then on Sunday morning Rafa should bring in the senior players considering they had the day off on Saturday and prepare for the Chelsea game instead of having them play on Saturday and rest on Sunday.

Something along those lines anyway........

Rory - agree that could be done - take advantage of our league game not being important and chelsea being in 3 competitions

could we see

Dudek

Arbeloa (left back)

Sami

Paletta

Finnan

Gonzo (LM)

Zenden (CM)

Momo(CM)

Pennant (RM)

Kuyt

Fowler.

I think Alonso will play as he didn't last night and wasn't even on the bench. Momo was taken of after 50 minutes or so so can see him starting again. Kuyt will start as he only came on as sub and would imagine Fowler started, resting Crouch. It'll be interesting to see if Paletta does get a game, IMO I think it's definitely an option. I think Hyypia will also start and I wonder if Bellamy or Kewell may be on the bench.

The philosophy of the club is to win every match. To this end, we should play our strongest team this Saturday, win the game and deal with the fall out afterwards. Only when that philosophy is fully instilled in all staff and players will we start competing for the league - and it should start now.

Disagree. We're two games away from a European Cup final and need three points from four games to secure qualification for next year. Why risk injury and fatigue?

Whilst I agree with the first, I don't think the latter necessarily follows.

Alonso and Bellamy, to some extent Finnan are players who tend to fall into the bracket of those who are rested after international duty, whereas Gerrard, Sissoko and Carra are not.

Rafa has mentioned that there are some in his squad who could play everyday, and others who need 48, sometimes 72 hours to get back to their full level.

I think we may have enough time to count out post game fatigue, but saturday's team may have a lot to do with who's lacking a bit of bite toward the end of the season
