CarraLegend Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Cant be caught in the clean sheet stakes now and will finish 1st for the 2nd season running. He's on 18 from 33 games, next nearest is Howard with 13. Just incase his doubters will use Cech being out and VDS being injured for a few games as his reason for being top heres last seasons where he plays less games than both and still gets more. Reina - 20 clean sheets from 33 games with the nearest being VDS with 18 from 38 games and Cech with 17 from 34 Well in Pepe.
_00_deathscar Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 And also gets more undeserved stick from commentators than other keepers. Stuck, and stick.
Guz Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Well done to our defence is right. No well done for Reina though. He's not that good cos he plays behind a great defence (even though Neville is better than Finnan, Ferdinand/Terry better than Carra, Vidic always better than Agger and Riise is crap).
Red_Rob Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Pepe's the best keeper we've had since Brucie. Let those f***** slate him, he's not the kind of person to let it get to him.
KD07 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 ESPN running the vote for the best keeper of the year contest: I think they had every keeper in there bar Reina. Dickheads.
Stevie H Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 been really impressed with pepe's distribution this season. throws or kicks he seems to pick out an open man most of the time and get attacks moving. top man.
Sheida V Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I think he's the best keeper in England. At least there is no one better.
Eiler99 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Outstanding achievement. A few more this season and he'll surpass his own record from last year.
magneto Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Well...what if our game was a bit more "expansive"..would he still keep as many cleansheets? Anyway, well done Pepe.
Leo No.8 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 (edited) The reason he keeps so many clean sheets is he stays switched on and can pull off a top save in the 90th minute when we're 3-0 up after having had nothing to do all game at times. Other keepers will let that in and they'll win 3-1 anyway, but for me that ability to concentrate for 90 minutes along with his solid defence is why he keeps so many clean sheets compared to other very good goalkeepers. Alonso Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Reina's LFC career stats and info: -----------------PL--------------FAC------------LC--------------CL------------Other-----------Total-----------Apps---CS-----Apps---CS-----Apps---CS-----Apps---CS-----Apps---CS-----Apps---CS05-06-----33------20-------5------2--------0------0--------13-----7--------2-------1-------53----3006-07-----33------18-------0------0--------1------0--------11-----6--------1-------0-------46----24Total------66------38-------5------2--------1------0--------24-----13-------3-------1-------99----54 Reina holds a Liverpool record for the fewest number of goals conceded by a 'keeper in their first fifty games. The previous record was held by Ray Clemence in 1970?71 for conceding only 32 goals, while Pepe conceded only 29. Reina kept his sixth consecutive clean sheet against Wigan Athletic F.C. in the Premier League to break the Liverpool club record for successive clean sheets in the Premiership era. He surpassed David James' record of five games from the 1996?97 season. Reina's incredible run ended at eight league games. In May 2006 Reina was awarded the Premier League's golden Gloves award for keeping 20 clean sheets in the 2005-06 season. His performances put him ahead of Manchester United F.C.'s Dutch keeper Edwin van der Sar (18) and the previous year's winner Petr Čech of Chelsea (17). Pretty impressive if you ask me especially as he's only 24 (25 in August).

Reina, Finnan and Carra had poor starts to the season too.
Benitez Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 And well in our defence ... who I'm sure appreciate such an aggressive and commanding goalie, more than some Liverpool fans do. He's a class act is Pepe. Only 3 goalies in this league are worthy of being called class, and he is one of 'em.
anfield11 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Pepe is excellent and cool with his feet. Many difficult situations don't even arise because he's so quick off his line. He's almost like a sweeper behind the back line, but one that can use his hands. Excellent I'd say.
_00_deathscar Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Indeed Figaro. 65 goals conceeded in 99 games by Pepe so far in his Liverpool career.
Snakebite Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 but..but..but the pundits told me he's a liability and we won't win the league until we get a better keeper.
Guz Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 but..but..but the pundits told me he's a liability and we won't win the league until we get a better keeper. Need to sort out our defending at set pieces too
anny road Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Need to sort out our defending at set pieces too zonal marking is w*** fact
Sion Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Anyone know of the number of goals conceeded in some of Liverpool's more memorable 'keeper's first 100 games?
Guest Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Indeed Figaro. 65 goals conceeded in 99 games by Pepe so far in his Liverpool career. Interesting to see the figures of VDS, Cech, Robinson, (I won't count Buffon in this - as everyone knows it takes years to score a goal in the Calcio unless you've bribed the ref beforehand) Casillas, Valdes and Palop for the same number of games
