honourablegeorge Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I hate to say it, but a game against Middlesborough, of all teams, given the "could not be arsed" nature of the Villa and City games, is the last thing I want to see. Christ, I'll be amazed if eleven players actually turn up.

Red Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Gotta feeling this will be a really entertaining match. I can't see Rafa' letting them get away with a second lack lustre performance. I'm hoping we run amok, which should please the five people in the stands no end.

We need to win these 2 home games to secure Champions League and go into the 2 semis in form and completely focused on Chelsea. The last thing we want is a half-ar*ed display, lose points and have to sweat on Bolton's results for the next 2 weeks. Rafa keeps saying he wants to have 4th place sewn up as quickly as possible and Boro & Wigan at home are as good as it gets to achieve that by the weekend. Strongest line-up tomorrow, get the game won early to give the likes of Gerrard, Crouch & Xabi a breather and same again on Saturday.

San Diego Red Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) Is Kewell confirmed to be on the squad? Edited April 17, 2007 by KPatel

Ben 23 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Got £60 on Gonzalez first goal. Do me proud speedy, do me proud... Guaranteed not to start now.

Ben 23 Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 (edited) It was £1 but after Lindfield and Rosicky both opened the scoring, in their respective games, it's now £61 (I think)... Not really a waste of money because either way I get the £61 back, just speedy could add a 0 to the end for when I come to collect it. Can see Yak' scoring first though if we're not up for it. Bearing that in mind I'd seriously question him playing tonight in what could still be a fairly frenetic Premier League game. If one of the strikers needs a break I'd rather we played one up front to be honest; in fact I'd rather we played that way anyway myself. Reina Finnan Carragher Agger Riise Mascherano Alonso Pennant Gerrard Gonzalez Crouch That'd be my team for tonight, lining up a la the Arsenal game. Lets get the ball down and play some football against this lot. Edited April 18, 2007 by Leo No.8

Stevie H Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 'boro are going to sit back and defend in numbers, so it would make sense to play two up top.

I'm not sure it always works like that though. We got better numbers up in support of Crouch against Arsenal by giving the attacking midfield trio licence to push on pretty much at will, than we do with two up top most of the time. Kuyt plays that deep it's almost like he's in midfield anyway but playing with his back to goal instead of running forward. If you play this formation right it's more like 4-3-3 at times, and with the quality of our two holding midfielders we can do it that way. Edited April 18, 2007 by Leo No.8

If we are gonna have all the possession this could be a game for him. Rafa does like to use his squad too and this is a game that Rafa may see as ideal for playing Fowler even if its for 60 minutes or coming on for the last 30. According to the BBC Kewell is not in the squad. Edited April 18, 2007 by Alonso

Problem is though that said half chances will need to fall right at his feet, because he struggled to get to and control passes which were a yard away from him the other night. I just thought he looked out of place in that game he was so far off the pace. Give him 15 minutes at the end by all means but I'd rather not see him starting in a game which has any significance now.
