Guest Ant Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 If he had a right foot he would be one the world best players...
Elisha_Scott Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 If he had a right foot he would be one the world best players... If he had a heart he would be on his way to that.
psl Posted April 3, 2007 Author Posted April 3, 2007 That'd be the right foot that won the game at the Nou Camp...
dorgie Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Seemed to play much more infield tonight..........another tactical masterstroke from Rafa.
Paul_LFC Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Shame he can't pass the ball, turn on the ball or control it though! These goals he scores paper over the cracks big time...
Guest Ant Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 That'd be the right foot that won the game at the Nou Camp... That was a fluke....Seriously....
stressederic Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 People really like criticising him don't they? Does my head in.
Elisha_Scott Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 People really like criticising him don't they? Not really, just pointing out that he is nowhere near being the best in the world. I dont think he possesses the required courage to be considered a top player, a la, Xabi, Carra, Gerrard etc.....
psl Posted April 3, 2007 Author Posted April 3, 2007 Does my head in. And me. Been here as long as anyone, scored crucial and spectacular goals throughout his career, been part of record breaking, European Cup winning defences, never stops running etc. Constantly treated like a clueless, talentless a*** by many. Not really, just pointing out that he is nowhere near being the best in the world. I dont think he possesses the required courage to be considered a top player, a la, Xabi, Carra, Gerrard etc..... I didn't say he was the best in the world but I think that to say he has no heart is very unfair.
Cheesecake Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 do you mean courage as in s***ting out of tackles or sheer nerve - as in the sheer nerve Carra has?Not many have that Carra type of nerve y'know - sheer bloody-mindedness will to win-damned if I'm gonna lose type of nerve.

I still remember going away to Man City in 2005 and watching Riise visibly shrink from about 4 or 5 tackles with Joey Barton. And that is not an isolated incident either. He hates tackling, you might notice he only ever throws a decent one in when the winger is controlling and turning on the touchline, so is basically a sitting duck
Guest Ant Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I think he has been a very influential signing by the club, he has contributed to our success in more ways then one... His heart is deffinatly in the right place, however he is very fustrating sometimes, however I don't go as far to say he is a bad players because he is one of longest servants at this club... 2001?....6 Years a very long time
Bailo Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 He's not a world beater, and his form has been poor for a lot of this season, but he's an excellent member of our squad. I wouldn't want him at any other club.
Romario Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I like Riise. But I still can't understand how playing everyday he still doesn't have even the slightest ability on his right foot. I can't understand how you wouldn't work on that all the time as you'd instantly be twice the player. (I'm not talking abot shooting from 35 yards but just the comfortable ability of laying of passes and leaving opponents guessing as to which why you'll go. Thats why he can't beat a man as he's so easy to mark being one footed) Very strange indeed.

I dont think he possesses the required courage to be considered a top player, a la, Xabi, Carra, Gerrard etc.....Well put. He has the physical attributes to be a better player but he really just hovers in the area of average, popping up to score a goal now and then.
Cheesecake Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 (edited) true Romario but hes got one with his right and one with his left in the knockout stages thus far. time for a header versus Valencia in the semis now... Edited April 3, 2007 by DPD1973
Romario Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 true Romario but hes got one with his right and one with his left in the knockout stages thus far. time for a header versus Valencia in the semis now... I'm not knocking him at all mate. He's an extremly effective player considering his limited ability. I'm fine with that. He's 1/4 of the best defense in the league this season and part of that back 4 for many years. He's also really really effective in certain big games as a LM player so we should all be happy with him. I am. Many player with far, far more ability have far, far less end product.
Cheesecake Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 wasnt having a go - just asking for him to complete the sequence!
nd Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Riise is a flawed player, no doubt, but I would take issue with anyone who says that he's been anything other than a damn good acquisition for us. One of Houllier's best. Still don't trust him defensively, and I have no idea how someone so one-footed plays at this level, but the fact that he's been virtually ever-present for two good managers throughout a period of decent success tells you something. And there's more than one way of showing 'heart'. I hate to see players duck challenges, but I love to see them pop up with good goals at crucial moments.
