IgPig Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Let the games begin Independent says £30M but the site is down at the mo I'll see your Kaka and raise you a Villa.
Michael Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Ok that should be a big enough wage to make him stay, now what about the transfer funds................
McBain Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I would hope that we play down as much as possible any talk of having a huge summer budget, which these articles are doing. All that nonsense talk of a £100m summer budget would only make clubs ask for enormous fees
kop205 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Independent says £30M but the site is down at the mo I'll see your Kaka and raise you a Villa. So pretty much the same as we spent last summer on Bellamy, Kuyt, Pennant and Gonzalez then? Although if having that 5 - 10m extra means that we can get our real first choices (e.g. Alves instead of Pennant) then that is all that we need.
Stevie H Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 that presumably excludes any money raised from sales too?
Knox_Harrington Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 that presumably excludes any money raised from sales too?aye the Cisse £8m for starters. and the Pongo £4mWith one of Bellamy and Crouch likely to go as well £30m should be more than enough for what we need.
Guest Prongsy Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 What a b******s article. 1)They have no idea how much G+H have promised and they are guessing and or making it up as they go2) £30m, are they kidding, that is £2m more than we spent last summer. Complete and utter b******s If it is £40m plus our normal spend plus sales, then that owuld be more like it.

Guest Prongsy Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 (edited) So you think the papers know how much Rafa will have to spend? They have already proven that they are making it up - one says 30 one says 40. At least, but probably both are wrong. They are making it up, complete crap. I don't think we need a huge amount, nor do I want us to splash money around like the russian but the papers are guestamating, and not even very well. Edited April 3, 2007 by Prongsy
Knox_Harrington Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 If it is £40m plus our normal spend plus sales, then that owuld be more like it.There is absolutely no need for this football club to spend over £60m on players this summer.
Alonso Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 (edited) 5 papers are saying £40m with a few of them all quoting the same targets - Eto'o, Villa, Bent and Alves. Some continuity there I think which is unusual. No smoke without fire: Guardian Telegraph Daily Mail Daily Mirror The Times Edited April 3, 2007 by Alonso
Guest Prongsy Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 (edited) There is absolutely no need for this football club to spend over £60m on players this summer. £60m is two top wingers and a top striker. It's Rafa that is saying we need to take two steps forward, it is Rafa that told the board that we need to spend £30m on a top player, not £6m. I'm not saying that I want or we should be spending anything, I'm saying it is more realistic figure to take the steps the manager is talking about. There have been many more indication of him having a large amount to spend too. 5 papers are saying £40m with a few of them all quoting the same targets - Eto'o, Villa, Bent and Alves. Some continuity there I think which is unusual. No smoke without fire: In what world do they live in? since when is £40m enough to buy Eto'o and Alves (let alone the other two)? Bent is going to cost £20m (they have already turned down a bid of £18m). This is yet more crap from the media and people get sucked straight in. With the new TV deal, the available money would have been around that without the new owners. In his latest inteview Rafa said that now isn't the time to talk about money. That was never going to stop the media making s*** up though. Edited April 3, 2007 by Prongsy

If those figures needed boosting by a few million then we've also got sales to take into account. The papers are suggesting that Eto'o, Villa and Bent are our targets not that we're gonna buy all 3. Magic8Ball Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 £60m is two top wingers and a top striker. whilst I agree with that statement the problems I see are 1 Clubs demanding more money for their players, especially the established stars 2 There is no guarantee that a top rated player will perform in this league, or even for our team - look at shevchenko for example, Drogba and C Ronaldo took 2+ seasons to get on fire and we dont know if its a one off season for either yet Sadly right now I think we need to gamble on the established players - but long term we are far better off trying to find the next Eto'o etc far less of a risk, so I was pleased to hear that Rafa is also insisting on massive spending for the youth teams. Again that will only benefit us if we loan these players out to get lots of competitive football. finally - the mirror is all about Man U's youth team making the final, well so did ours where were the paper column inches then ? - seems only Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U's teams are worthy of a mention in this regard
Guest Prongsy Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 £25m for Eto'o £15m for Alves. At least we know how the papers came up with the £40m figure now. OT x EMV = RTF (old targets x estimates market value = Rafa's transfer fund)
Romario Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 (edited) War chest If someone like Etoo came in could we possibly keep all 4 strikers? EtooCrouchBellamy Kuyt That's a great foursome for any team. I have to say if one of Bellamy or Crouch are shown the door I'll be very dissapointed. I think Crouch deserves to stay and I don't think Bellamy has had a fair chance. Bailo Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Would people be happy with Alves, Villa and Voronin as the only purchases this summer? Are they the only "definite" targets? I tend to think we need a Ronaldo-esque player on top of that, unless Gonzalez or Pennant can step up in the immediate future.
Guest Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I don't want Eto'o at LFC. I think he'd be trouble: Unstable personality with a massive chip on his shoulder.Africa Cup duty.Dodgy agent and advisers. Sound familiar?

Guest Prongsy Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Would people be happy with Alves, Villa and Voronin as the only purchases this summer? Are they the only "definite" targets? They are not definate targets. They are either old targets or guesses by the media. I Hope they are targets because they are top players. I agree we could really use a player that can skip past people more often than Pennant and Gonzalez do. I think Gonzalez will step up.

Seems a strange signing to me to be honest. We are ram packed with strikers just below that very top tier (poaching wise) and Voronin sits below that as it is. If he's been told he's 4th choice then I'm surprised he's signed to be honest. With Sissoko, Alonso and Mash in the middle I think our right side is in better shape than our left with Gerrard filling in. Arbeola and Aurillio look like they could be excellent as full backs so for me it's about a goal scoring forward and the left side of midfield (if we only plan on 2 players.) We can't wait for Kewell to come good. It might never happen. Edited April 3, 2007 by Romario
