Real Betis are believed to be lining up a move for Liverpool's Mark Gonzalez.

Reports emanating from Spain suggest Betis coach Luis Fernandez has made Gonzalez one of his top summer transfer targets.

Gonzalez is highly regarded in Spain after two successful seasons in La Liga with Albacete and Real Sociedad before moving to Anfield.

The Chilean winger has struggled for form and fitness since arriving at Liverpool last summer struggling to hold down a regular place in Rafa Benitez's starting XI.

The news has alerted Betis who are in the market for a left-sided midfielder for next season and reports suggest they have sounded out Gonzalez's representatives about a possible return to Spain.

However, it remains to bee seen if Benitez would be willing to let Gonzalez leave Liverpool after waiting so long to sign him in the first place because of problems obtaining a work permit.

Betis have also lined up a move for Olivier Kapo should they fail in their bid for Gonzalez.

Kapo is currently on loan at Levante from Juventus and the Frenchman has impressed in La Liga.

The former Auxerre man is unlikely to break into the Juventus side next season and the Italian giants could consider offloading him permanently next summer.

cant see rafa selling him after 1 injury ravaged season after the effort it took to get him here, however we will have a lot of players for the position next season (even before quaresma and nani are signed) so some will have to go i suppose

rafa's shown he can be ruthless. IF they make a decent offer, and IF rafa decides it's enough to persuade him to sell, then I wouldn't be surprised.

Still think he could come good given a decent run though. He seems to get injured almost every game he plays, which must make it incredibly difficult to settle in.

He mustn't be as fit as he ought to be....

Give him a chance

Exactly, cannot believe people jump on new players so quickly.

Christ he's not been brilliant but he's with a new team, been injured, new country. Give him at least another season before you bin him off. Remember Ronaldo was shyte when he started at the Mancs.

Ronaldo showed a helluva lot more in his first season that Gonzalez has so far. It doesn't even compare!

Gonzalez, injuries or not, has been a massive disappointment and with Leto arriving, could be surplus to requirements.

Is that meant to be in jest?

I would be very surprised if Gonzalez leaves, unless he is unhappy with life in England. He is young, with a lot of potential and needs time to get used to playing in a new league and recover from injuries. I definitely want us to keep him. He always puts in 100% effort.

This isn't a computer/playstation game where we can just buy great players and they'll settle into the team immediately and be better than what we already have. It's a team game and I don't think we'd do well with more than 2, max 3 signings for the first team.

the lad needs games to show us, and the club, what he is made of.

the main problem for him and also Pennant is that the team formations rarely tend to include a winger option.

the managers desire to play Gerrard,Alonso AND Sissoko in every game does not leave many winger options.

Gonzales may get unhappy with life at Liverpool FC rather than England itself.

How long did it take for you to conclude Pellegrino was s***e?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we let him go this summer. Morientes, Nunez, Josemi all got barely more than a season.

Gonzales has been a disappointment and if we can get a decent fee we should at the very least consider it.

About 2 minutes and I was right :bleh:

Pires didn't, Henry didn't - would you have let them go to????

Everyone keeps going on about how poor Henry, Pires and Ronaldo were, but they still had a good first touch and a bit of technique and Guile.

Gonzarles is excellent in his mediocrity, bring back Jimmy Carter all is forgiven.

Nearly every time he has played it has been coming back from injury. He has show glimpses of quality in the very limited time that he has played.

He has been a lot less disappointing that Pennant and has scored three times as many goals than him in the short time he has had.

Needs confidence badly.

Henry scored something around 26-28 goals in his first season for Arsenal, what is it he did not do?

I think Gonzalez can become good, he just needs time to settle in without all these injuries breaking up his rythm all the time.

If the lad had had a decent run of games injury-free then I could start to understand letting him go. As it is, I think he should get at least one more season to establish himself.

Are you talking in relative terms, cos for my money Penant has been far more effective and contributed more this season. The lad has good pace and a decent shot, but he sure needs a lot of space to play in
