It raises an interesting point. SCS omitted Defoe for the less talented Johnson because he thought Rooney and Johnson would be the better partnership. Defoe is a very similar player to Owen, though not as good, or at least not as good as Owen of 4 years ago, does anyone think that had Owen been fit, SCS would still be looking for a 'partnership' rather than playing Owen and Rooney which has been proven not to work?

 

Also, if you are talking solely about natural goalscoring ability. Fowler wins hands down.

That's about the third time I've heard him say Defoe is the most natural goalscorer in England. It's so out of keeping with what anyone else thinks and so far from the truth I can only think he must have a thing for him.

 

Defoe isn't even always first choice for Spurs; at the end of the day he was a promising kid who hasn't really set the world on fire or developed much from the age of 18. Platt is talking utter crap, if anything I think Defoe making the squad says a lot about our current lack of truly top class strikers.
