anfield Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I would quite happily give up any chance of winning the CL trophy again for the next 10 years if it meant winning the league title even once. Istanbul was magic but somehow the thought of winning the CL while finishing 4th/3rd in our own league is not appealing anymore. Am I alone in this?
Flasher Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 (edited) Whilst we're out of the league I want to win the CL more than anything. However, at the beginning of every season I want the league more. Edited March 19, 2007 by Flasher

Magic8Ball Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Whilst we're out of the league I want to win the CL more than anything. However, at the beginning of every season I want the league more. That's as it should be --
Rico Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I'd give up the CL this season if it meant we'd win the Premiership next season. The Premiership has to be the main focus, for me. We've never won it. Yeah, 18 league titles, but history is history. Despite what some claimed after Istanbul, we're still not back on our perch. I wouldn't give up any chance of winning the CL for the next ten years just for one Premiership title, though. That's just crazy talk.
Guest Kev Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 The Premiership is the one I want at the start of every season.
Chili Palmer Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 The Premiership has to be the main focus, for me. We've never won it. I hate that, its like saying we have only won one european cup.
Guest Kev Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I hate that, its like saying we have only won one european cup. Why, it's a personal choice ?
Rico Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I hate that, its like saying we have only won one european cup. I don't see how. Surely we won 4 under the original format. So if anything it's like saying we've only won 4 European Cups. It's only been about 10 years in its current format. I know what you mean, though. Yes the Premiership is equivalent to what was Division One. If anything, it might be easier to win as there are fewer teams in competition. However, to me it still feels like a trophy we have not won.
Chili Palmer Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Why, it's a personal choice ? Personal choice to do what? we have won the league ya know! I don't see how. However, to me it still feels like a trophy we have not won. but by that reasoning we shouldn't ever say 18-5 to the mancs, it would be 0-1, it just doesn't work
Guest Kev Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Personal choice to do what? we have won the league ya know! yeh, about 16 years ago which is why I want it back.
Christine Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 When the season starts my number one priority is always the premier league, anything else is a bonus and a welcome bonus but the premier league at that time is my priority.
Armin_Tamzarian Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I'd sooner win 10 Champions Leagues than one Premiership. In fact if you could arrange it for me that would be great.
Ronnie Whelan Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 At the start of the season its the league for me.
Guest Finnan3 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 At the start of every season for the past 15 years, I say "this is gonna be our year, we'll win the league" I want to win the league title (premiership, championshiop, doesnt matter what its called) over the European Cup.

Well done.
anfield Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 fecin bonkers. And arrogant all at once. Well done. Explain how thats supposed to be arrogant. I believe that in order to be called the best club in Europe, a team should be consistently challenging for the title in its own country. We haven't won the dam thing in 16 years and we haven't even mustered much of a challenge for it for a long time now......(and that includes the season we finished second). Winning the title should now be number one priority. Of course I'm not saying I don't want us to win the CL this year......thats just plain stupid. I'm saying if winning the league meant giving up challenging for the CL for some years, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Marvin Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I'll take being called Champions of Europe for another 12 months.
Guz Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I dont know about anyone else but telling every team we played last season, home or away, that we were the european champions and we'd won it for the 5th time was f***ing great. Doesnt mean anyone's happy with poor league campaigns but i'll never bore of winning the european cup. It's boss.
Guest Scot Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 European Cup is boss but I want the league more than anything
Mr Makaveli Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 give up the chance to win the CL for the next 10 years??? come on, you dont really want this and if you got your wish you'd be sorry you asked for it. The champions league is a fantastic competition and id give up winning the league next year to win this this year... however after that you can feck right off... ya i think that for the overall martetability of the club, the Champions league is far more important.. the fact that we'd be winning it 2 times in 3 years would really turn heads across the world. winning the league will only shut the mancs up, besides that it wouldnt do a lot. so.... meh I'd sooner win 10 Champions Leagues than one Premiership. In fact if you could arrange it for me that would be great. nice way of looking at it At the start of every season for the past 15 years, I say "this is gonna be our year, we'll win the league" I want to win the league title (premiership, championshiop, doesnt matter what its called) over the European Cup. well how do i put this, we won't win the league next season. there ive said it.

I agree with you to a large extent.
Nerik Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 The league title has been missing for a long time so I really want us to win that ASAP. However it is a known fact that the best football is played in the Champs Lge (UEFA studies), so to win it means winning the best competition of all. We have to translate that form to the EPL and it is all about mindset.
Big E Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Just wondering: With Chelsea potentially in transition during the summer, and Siralex likely to retire if he wins the CL, would Utd winning it present our best chance of winning the league next year?
