They wanted to make sure that he has recovered from his injury - but they don't want to make it obvious that they have blatantly tapped him up - so they get him to do some tests and call it a 'pre-medical'

Speculation states that Metzelder has signed a four year deal with Real Madrid, after completing a medical at the Bernabeu. He is said to have chosen Madrid over the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester United. Madrid are yet to rubber stamp the deal however, as they look to make firm improvements during the summer.
