I don't want the new stadium to be called Anfield

We know that naming rights to our stadium will more then likely be sold, but let me make a claim for the other part, Stanley Park...

I believe that Anfield should be left where it is, it will be sad to see it go, but I for one know that we can call the new stadium what ever we want but it isn't Anfield. It will be a brand new stadium with hopefully a hundred years of history and success being made their in the future.

I think naming the stadium Anfield would be a bad move, we should leave good memories and good times, where it once was...

Name the new one Stanley Park and lets create some history there!

If we were moving further calling it Anfield would be wrong. But it is still in Anfield

I agree, the logical name should be the The New Anfield.

I want the name & all it means to live forever, not lost in the annals of history like the ruff!

It will be the Cillit Bang Stadium.

Anfield will appear in the title, the club won't want to forgo all the glamour of the name, it's a part of why they stayed in the same area after all.

It will probably be something along the lines of 'The Carlsberg Anfield arena' obviously depending on who sponsors it. Or something even more clunky like the Carlsberg arena at Anfield.

If there's a sponsor's name on the 'This is Anfield' sign above the steps leading to the pitch I'll be violently sick.

Stanley Knife Park.

I blame the father.

So do I.

Is the (current) stadium officially called 'Anfield'? it always used to be listed as 'Anfield Road'.

I see on Wikipedia, it's referred to as 'Anfield Statdium' but is that the actual name?

I reckon people will call the new one Anfield whether it's officially named that or not.

It will probably officially be named somthing like the "american airlines stadium".

However as with arsenals stadium, most poeple will probably still call it new anfield (ala ashburton grove)

As long as we're still called Liverpool Football Club and play in Red, the rest isn't nearly as important.

Sorry but that is just plain wrong. You cannot simply pick and choose with these things.

LFC has evolved within its setting of Anfield so as to be indivisible from it. It is a seam running right through our entire fabric. Any football club is an amalgam of its name, its shirt, its home, its fans and its players/manager. In our case - and especially in how we are perceived both within these shores and internationally - our home just so happens to be a more integral part of our identity than probably is the case with any other football club.

Gillett and Hicks have only been here 5 minutes and already they have identified the Anfield link as one of the cornerstones in the future of the club. I don't understand how some longer serving Reds don't seem to grasp the essence of the Anfield connection in LFC entity.

Naming of the stadium and selling that for sponsorship is inevitable, just as shirt sponsorship was at one time. For me, once we move to the new stadium, whatever its called won't be as important as the fans, the shirt, the club crest, the history, the name of the club. There's plenty to preserve and nurture as part of our culture but i'm not sure what you mean by "I don't understand how some longer serving Reds don't seem to grasp the essence of the Anfield connection in LFC entity." ? Nobody is saying we should do away with the Anfield connection, thats impossible because the club will still be in Anfield and the old stadium is a massive part of our history.

What about the naming of the stands? Anyone got any ideas? Are they gonna be called where they back onto or should we go for naming stands after players/managers?

Aren't "ANFIELD" and "THIS IS ANFIELD" too well known and wrapped up in the club just to be let go?

It's one of the most famous stadia in the world, and has one of the the most famous marques.

I'm not sure THIS IS STANLEY PARK has the same ring.

Although THIS IS STANLEY KNIFE PARK would do I suppose... ;)

Anfield, Kop and This is Anfield are all part and parcel of what Liverpool are about. The Americans will view all 3 as Brand opportunities, as well as symbols of our history and traditions.
