Figaro Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 They have the 'New Pele' - Robinho. The 'New Redondo' - Gago. and now The 'New Beckhenbauer' - Metzelder Add to that the fact that Atletic Madrid have The 'New Van Basten' - Torres The 'New Maradona' - Khun Aguero I don't know why we all don't stop playing football now and let them win everything...
ManxRed Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Plus I suspect they'll have 'The New Manager' soon as well.
Gray - YPC Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Gago's quality isn't he? All the reports I've ever heard about him seem to say he's the real deal...
Diarmuid Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Metzelder is the new Beckenbauer? Jesus, no wonder they're so s****.

Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 To be fair, Gago has been the dog's when I have seen him. He was the only one willing to take responsibility and show for the ball against Bayern and that as a youngster who has only just arrived.

Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Metzelder is class and will be a good signing for them if he stays fit. comparing him to beckenbauer or sammer is ridiculous though.

Silencio Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Madrid should be signing Europe's best young defenders like we have done with Agger and Man U with Vidic. Metzelder is a good player though and Gago seems very promising.
Guest John Mal Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 What are the chances they'll go all out for for Rafa in the summer? And would he be tempted? I think he'd be mad, personally. He's been building something for the long term here and it would be a shame if he left and was then sacked after a couple of seaasons at Madrid, which is often the norm.

Skillz Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Aguero for AM looks ok to me, not maradona but i wish we had him
Benzo-13 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Metzelder is a good player alright. Though injuries have laid him low a lot in the last three years. Had a great World Cup though.

Rafa's not interested in circuses.
Leo No.8 Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Every time I see Madrid Sergio Ramos looks the only player of theirs I'd really like us to have. Partly because he's the only one who looks like he gives a f*ck! He's quality though - love the way he storms upfield when they are behind and almost always caused the opposition problems. He's got ability alright but he has heart as well.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Since when was Redondo the bench mark for new talents to esteem to ? Not saying he wasnt a bad player, that flick at OT was quality when they won 3-2, but calling someone the New Redondo ?

Redondo was a brilliant footballer but suffered horribly from injuries; he actually requested Milan stop paying him towards the end of his career because he'd played so little for them which was a very noble gesture. Gago should throw himself down the stairs if he wants to be like Redondo...
