The journos seems to have got together today to do numerous articles praising and defending arsenal to the hilt ,funny how the most criticism arsenal got was actually from of their own players saying that they need to win things in the present rather than constantly think of the future.

He's one of the best, football writers in the country. It's a fair enough observation, why else are there so many posts on here calling for the signing of a creative winger or attacking midfielder? Plus in Kewell and Garcia we've lost the two most creative players in the team.

agree, he's an excellent journalist and seems to be a big fan of us and of rafa.

Think it's a bloody good article myself.

Everyone keeps taking sly digs at "Wenger's Kids" costing millions of quid. That may be so, but there's no disguising the fact that Arsenal have the best young talent in the country. No, it's not homegrown, but that doesn't change their potential.

lets be clear here, its not proven that arsenal have the best young talent in the country at all !! -- Wenger reminds me of O'leary saying the youngg lads that's the reason we're not doing well - fact is whenyou look at the young players Arsenal have and the players we have under 23 we have approx the same quality as they do !

in addition we won the youth cup, we're in line to get to the final of another youth cup, 2 seasons ago pongolle and the youngsters got us to wembley

Arsenal have a great PR team; we dont ......... YET !

nothing sly about it, just pointing out a fact.

Well yeah, when I said sly I was talking about other managers.

People on here are much more direct. :D

Course it's not proven, how would you prove it.

We won the youth cup against other youth teams. Few of our youngsters are ready to make the breakthrough like Arsenal's are. I'm not saying they're world beaters, but they've got some impressive young talent.

Lawton is an exceptional sports journalist. He's not quite Hugh Mcilvanney, who I think is the best sports writer from these islands of the last 30 years, but he's always worth reading. McIlvanney has declined in the last couple of years but that's down to age rather than ability.

I have a lot of time for Lawton, the style and content of his writing has an air of intelligence most other writers only dream about.

In this case his point is exaggerated but has an element of truth; a creativity infusion is essential for our transformation to England's best.

Loved this part:

"Once, in his little office beneath Liverpool's old rickety main stand, Bill Shankly was explaining the club's future with the passing of such bedrock figures as Ronnie Yeats and Ian St John. He said that he had gathered together a bunch of young players who eventually would explode into the sky like a "great bloody bomb". The impact of this statement was not lessened by the fact that in order to make it the old warrior had clambered on to his desk, stood to his full height and then violently clasped his hands together. "

Can't you just see it??!!

I like Lawton too... it's this word 'creativity' that gets to me. If we are a team without creative nous, then how come we split open their defence time and time again. In fact we created a host of chances against Barca home and away. Creativity was not an issue. We created fewer chances against United, but they had 10 men behind the ball. We didn't put our chances away... that's the killer instinct we are missing.

Yes we do need a player that can unlock tight defences... but creativity is not an issue. Holding onto the ball against Barca and at times against United was an issue, yet we created chances. Yes I would love to see an out and out creator that can cross a ball, take on players and beat them, cut inside and provide a defence splitting pass. Even more I would like to see such a player on the left of midfiel (Quaresma?). I just wish there was a little more thought given to semantics and less to histrionics.
