Nebraska Red Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 they are entitled to their opinions, no matter how bitter and twisted they are. they clearly wanted Barcelona to win over the 2 legs and are gutted that we defied the odds. hard to know what they expected us to do, we were in the driving seat from the first leg and the onus was on Barca to take the game to us. strange how they forget the number of near misses we had in the first half. their hatred of Rafa Benitez is almost vitriolic. at least Giles was ready to say that he was happy Liverpool won the game. the other 2 must have had a hefty wedge on Barcelona.
MikeK88 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 just under 5 minutes of b******s spoken there. When he moved his rant to Pennant, I immediatly thought of that decent ball he put into the box - if it were not for crouch and his lack of skill, we'd of scored. Would they have been saying the same about Pennant then? Pennant also played very well against the Scum on Saturday, when is Pennant going to be in a league winning side? Well he run riot around the League leaders on Saturday, so I'd say very soon. As has been said, everyones entitled to their opinion, no matter how s*** it is.

Loved the bit when Dunphy said that bit "When is Pennant ever going to be in a league winning or Euroepan Cup winning side? NEVER" Giles (?) shuts him up by saying "Well he can point to the fact that he's now in a European Cup quarter final" Dunphy's an utter c**k.
Michael Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Those two are wasted on football punditry. They were born to star in Beckett's plays at the Old Vic.
4411 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 who the f*** watches this crap and why? You want them off the air? stop watching!
Nebraska Red Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 they are the Irish eqivalent of Keys and his crappy bunch, negativity brings responses and that is what they all go for. it's the same pretty much anywhere, we get it over here when ESPN is on some kind of witch hunt.
BG Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 You can only laugh at these idiots. Pundits are just like armchair generals: full of bolocks but too scared to put their judgement on the line. I'd never seen them before. They make me pine for Marwood and McCoist.
Jay M Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Love the way he finishes off with "Liverpool should have been 3-0 up at half time we're gonna go to a break" They couldn't talk crap after that
jfogarty Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I actually kinda agree with a tiny bit of what they said. We were awful in the second half in midfield and up front. If we play like that again against a team with quality centre forwards and creative midfielders I think we will be punished. The good thing right now in the CL is that not many teams play with 2 up front and that could play into our hands. I dont like the 4-3-3 systems some sides use and think they will eventually be found out. For that reason I dont want to play Valencia,Munich or Roma and I feel Milan is the best draw for us. We will be underdogs but we are better than them
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 look at the match stats - we were all over them. The better team over 2 legs won. Utter, utter spout

Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 jesus, this is amazing stuff. When's Pennant ever going to be in a team that wins the League, the EC...never. 2 words - Djimi Traore
meepins Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) They are clearly talking about the second half performance and it was atrocious.Disregard what Dunphy says because he likes a rant.Listen to what John Giles says and tell me what he says wrong (2.05 onwards) Edited March 8, 2007 by lfc-dub

We were threatened twice and conceeded once against the best attacking side in the world. We should also have scored at least twice in the second half. The negativity of some here amazes me.

We let them come at us by conceding possession needlessly, it didnt have to be as close as it was. Where does it leave our chances of winning it when we aren't able to string a few passes together?

I cant think of any other side in Europe that has so much quality going forward.

Coyler Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Well, like, f*** it, like? Yeah? f*** them. Líne breá as bheathaisnéis Bhriain Uí Nualláin: é ag siúl abhaile ar an seachrán, greim aige ar na railings i bhFaiche Stiabhna: "f*** the f***ing f*****s, f*** the f***ing f*****s", ó bhéal an duine is mó a raibh máistreacht aige ar an mBéarla riamh.

They are the best attacking/creative midfield line up in the world. No way are you going to be able to keep the ball off them for long - they were the holders and leaders of La liga, remember? So what do you do given that? You stop them using it - and we did. Most of Barcelona's possession tookplace in the back quarter and midfield, going sideways, backward and rarely threatening. We always looked more like scoring than they did and had the better chances, if no luck on that front. For all their midfield possession, how many saves did Reina have to make? How many times di the ball just dribble or roll through to him unchallenged? We were excellent - they were stumped and if you can't see that then you should really have a word.

I thought our second half performance was brilliant ~ we were spent on energy so we just crushed them out of the game. As you said, most of their possession was well beyond the "40 yard line", just passing it around and we more or less let them do that other than the occassional Kuyt/Bellamy harrying. Once they got past that area, how many clear cut...nevermind clear cut: how many HALF DECENT chances did they carve out? Two? Three? Not bad limiting a forward 6 of their quality to that is it....and we had two or three chances ourselves/

That wasn't what he said. It wasn't what Giles said (ignore the prophets of the beautiful, it wasn't analysis, it was political ranting). The point was not that we couldn't get the ball off them when they had it, the point was that we couldn't keep hold of it in the second half, we gave it away with poor passing and poor composure, we made it harder for ourselves. Are Barca such a great pressing team that they made it impossible for us to keep the ball when we had it? I remember a topic a few weeks back praising these pundits for having the balls to think outside the box, give real opinion; yes while seeing Dunphy for the comedy he is, but sneering at redcafe for not being able to take a critiical opinion with any kind of grace

And our attacking front 6 aren't exactly Deco, Iniesta, Xavi, Ronaldino, Messi, Eto'o...
