For all our posters out in Spain (Fig, 440,000, Eskimo etc), I was wondering what the reaction has been to our putting Barca out over there?

And I was also wondering if the Spanish reporters enjoyed their experience of The Kop in it's full glory?

Cheers lads if you can let us know.

Any thrilling anecdotes, veiled references and Spanish words that no-one can understand will be most appreciated

Like "no vivo en España"?

Lot of disappointment, but from what i've seen not nearly as bad a reaction as after the 1st leg, think a lot kind of expected Barca not to go through.

Asked the question of a mate of mine who lives in Barcelona. His response:

"They know they didn´t deserve it over the 2 legs, but down to their own lack of form rather than Liverpools real expression of quality."

Julio Iglesias, Juan Carlos, Pedro Almodovar, El Cid, Pablo Picasso, Jose Carreras, Salvador Dali, Severiano Ballesteros, Antonio Banderas...

Your boys took one hell of a beating!

Well - the clear opinion around all the bars, papers and TV is that Liverpool were the better team over the two legs, Benitez is a 'sabelotodo' (know it all - tactically) and that he knew how to play Barcelona - plan executed perfectly. Well coached side and the commentators were extremely complimentary about Carra, Gerrard and Kuyt - easily the players who most impress people in this country.

The stadium and singing fans are already famous here - even more so by Reina, Alonso, Arbeloa (and Arteta) singing the praises of the city and the fans on spanish TV.

Here is an example email received from A Catalan friend this morning

"Hi Jimi, Congrats on the Liverpool win! They are extemely disciplined and Gerrard is fantastic! I was not able to travel to Anfield, but enjoyed the game inmensely over the TV.....May Liverpool continue to do well, I have gained great respect for their team, coaches, and legacy...quality inside & out! All the best, Juan"

Says it all really.

Anyone know how it was written up in Spain? (Pat, where are you?)

Just got his from "Sport" paper in Barca: Translation?

Babbelfish(!!!):

The Icelander Eidur Gudjohnsen lamented the lack of "work and sacrifice" of his equipment in the party before the Liverpool (0-1) that certificó the elimination of the azulgrana set of Liga de Campeones and assured that before equipment of certain level, the quality of the Barça is not sufficient to remove ahead the encounter. Questioned on the reasons for the elimination of the Barça, Gudjohnsen emphasized that "it is difficult to win in Anfield, and more obtaining two goals", but it surprised when aiming that the Liverpool worked more and better than the Spanish equipment: "We have more quality than they, but if we did not sacrifice all and we worked to top, it is not sufficient with the talent". "WITHOUT A WORK EXTRA, THE QUALITY IS NOT SUFFICIENT" "Each one can be sacrificed more", added the Icelander, who also transmitted the idea that the Barcelonian equipment needs more comradeship in the game land. "They lacked more companions, we have to work more together", expressed, already in correct a Castilian. Gudjohnsen insisted on which Barcelona is the equipment "with more quality than I know", but asked its companions "a work extra" to be to gain competitiveness. "When you play against equipment of an inferior level is not necessary, but at precise moments, before strong and hard equipment, if we gave a sacrifice extra, nobody could with us. If we worked so it last like the rival, they would not win to us ", expressed. "THE LIVERPOOL WAS MORE EQUIPMENT THAN WE" In this sense, the forward emphasized that the Liverpool "is not a great equipment nor has our quality", but admitted that the English block "worked as an equipment and the players ran by their companions, which he lacked in our equipment", although later tried to clarify that Barcelona demonstrated "pride" in Anfield. Thus, Gudjohnsen specified that, in his opinion, "it is not necessary that all we are friends outside the field", but remembered that "the important thing is the work in the field, that each one works by its companion and the equipment". "When an equipment has success is difficult to stay in that level", abounded the Barcelonist attacker, "must be more together and knows that we can improve, but is necessary to work more just a little bit". "TO BE OUTSIDE THE CHAMPIONS IT IS A DECEPTION, NOT A FAILURE The elimination in the eighth of end of Liga too much hard did not label the Icelander as failure de Campeones -"es a word, if we yes did not celebrate anything to end of season that would be it, but now not", it said -, although yes it recognized that it is a "deception". Gudjohnsen pointed at Liga and the Glass of the King, both objective that it has left to Barcelona, like "very important titles that still we can win", and talked about to the commitment of the next Saturday before Real Madrid like a great opportunity "to demonstrate the quality" and "to put a smile in the face of the liking". TO TITLE AGAINST MADRID? On its physical state, Gudjohnsen assured to be "at a good moment", after obtaining in Anfield the only goal of Barcelona, although it did not dare to venture if he will be holder before Real Madrid or no. "That is a question for the trainer", said, before ironizar with "yes, I have dreamed about it". "I have not played much in the last started off, but I continue working and I know that I am who must show my qualities", she added the Icelander, who also commented that it was "a pity" that its goal before the Liverpool "was not used for anything" because Barcelona was eliminated of the competition.

Heard some people say that we only won because Barca aren't playing well at the moment, but many more have said they thought it was a fantastic game and that we were superb. The Catalan paper was singing our praises this morning. They thought JC was immense. The general consensus is that it was a thoroughly merited victory and we demonstrated all that is best about English football.
