£440,000 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 This is my translation so not the best but this is in today's Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan sports daily, written by a columinist called The Panzer. Many Barca fans would have followed what happened in the Liverpool-Manchester United game yesterday, despite the time it was on. We all know that they play games in the middle of the day because by then they've already eaten and more importantly had a few drinks. It's practically time by then for an afternoon snack. But back to what we were talking about: those who watched the game are sure to be a little more hopeful. Not because Liverpool did terribly, that wasn't the case, but because are players are better. Let's make a general comparison, this time seriously, after yesterday's little joke: Reina-Valdes. They were together at Barca and though they both dreamed of success the club had to choose one. Barca made the right choice. Central defenders: Carragher is very good, but he'd love to have the character of Puyol, the positional sense of Thuram, the nerve of Marquez, the personality of Oleguer or the touch of Edmilson. Full backs: Barca have a world champion playing for them. Liverpool's are Norwegian and Irish internationals. Sometime an Arbeloa might play, a player who wasn't wanted by Madrid. The fact he's a Madridista should only be added motivation anyway. Xabi Alonso - Xavi - Iniesta: The Panzer sincerely hopes that Alonso signs for Barca... so he can be back up for our two who are better than him. Deco - Gerrard: with all respect, there's only one Deco. Luckily he plays for Barca. Eto - Crouch: Comparing these two is just a joke. Messi - Bellamy: The Welshman would be better if he learnt everything Leo could teach him. Ronaldinho: They can compare him with whoever they like, He's the best. Let's hope we make the idiot eat his words.
psl Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Funny, despite all their superior players we still beat them in their own stadium.
Guest Sabre Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Please e-mail that to someone at the club so they can pin it on the wall of the dressing room.

Utter nonsense. I don't know, imagine how good JC would be if he only showed a little nerve, character and personality.
Leo No.8 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Deco better than Gerrard - classic. Also I'm sure a few teams in the Championship would like 'the personality of Oleguer' but I'm f*cked if we or anyone in the top division does, he really is crap. They could have let in five against Sevilla who played most of the game a man down - now isn't really the time for this kind of arrogance from Barca, but long may it continue. I'd be far more worried if they were trying to get themselves wound up and giving it the 'backs to the wall' stuff than looking down their noses at us.
Red_Rob Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Puyol would be fourth choice centre-back at Anfield.
Guest RedLegend Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 There's a lot to admire about Barcelona but there's no doubt that they can be quite an arrogant bunch with a puffed up sense of their own importance.
£440,000 Posted March 4, 2007 Author Posted March 4, 2007 On paper they may well have better players than us in a few positions (thought not as many as they think). Fortunately football isn't played on paper.

So if we had Slyvain Wiltord playing for us and they had the "Milan-vintage" Shevchenko playing for them, they'd only have a Ukrainian international whereas we would have a World Champion, so we're better.

windy city red Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 (edited) Barcamania could have written this, it totally reads like a page right out from his book. Edited March 4, 2007 by windy city red
McBain Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I love this stuff. I hope the Barca players are of a similar mind
Ayline Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Brilliant argument. So if we had Slyvain Wiltord playing for us and they had the "Milan-vintage" Shevchenko playing for them, they'd only have a Ukrainian international whereas we would have a World Champion, so we're better. If only we still had Bernard Diomede playing for us, we'd be alright on Tuesday...
Stevie H Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 "Reina-Valdes. They were together at Barca and though they both dreamed of success the club had to choose one. I knew we let Diomede go too soon. Houllier and Parry out. Sign World Champions Ayline - I should read all posts before adding a reply
San Diego Red Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Well obviously he didn't see us beat Mouseface and co at the Nou Camp. Which clown wrote this, real name?
