I haven't seen anything to suggest he is good enough for the premiership or a starting place. He seems pretty tentative to take people on and for large parts of games he is annonymous.

Can't disagree with that. Probably needs a little more time but I don't hold out much hope for him becoming a fixture in the side.

Yes, as players never improve. They should just be brilliant straight away.

He'll surely be given another season but as it stands a left winger should be on our shopping list this summer.

Think he's better than he's shown and will be better next year. Don't think he'll get to Ronaldo/Robben standard but those players cost big money.

I watched the youtube vids of this boy when we signed him and thought "feck me he'll do", but its as if his impostor appeared at Anfield. Every time he plays I look for glimpse of the player everyone thought he'd be but alas it hasn't materialised.

 

I'm all for giving him time to settle but sadly he doesn't offer anything to the side and frankly I don't think he'll make it in the PL.

The player i watched regularly for Sociedad last season is nowhere to be seen. He looks like it's his first season in top flight football.

 

Each time he plays i keep thinking he'll spark into life but it never happens. Whatever he shows between now and May we need to add to that position

Yep I watched some of his games in Spain last year and thought he was outstanding, so he's been a disappointment this season. Plus 'Speedy Gonzales' hasn't been very speedy at all. He needs to start believing in himself quickly, and put in some commited performances or I doubt he'll make it over here.

Agreed. Also needs to receive the ball further up the pitch and isolated against the full back too, rather than in a tight position or just over the half way line. Same goes for Pennant.

Gonzalez looks nervous every time he plays. At Sociedad perhaps because he was on loan, he was more relaxed, took players on, shot more and was more involved in games.

 

Here it's like he's too scared to try taking people on in case he loses the ball, so goes for the easy option of cutting inside, or passing back to Riise. Couple of times he was in excellent position to put crosses in, but played the ball back instead.

 

Think a run in the team would do him good so that he could get his confidence up, and the other players could get confidence in him, but not sure if this will happen this year.

Just think he needs to prove himself among his team mates and once he does that his confidence will improve.

 

Ive played a bit of footie in my time and whenever you sign for a new team with players you dont know and dont know you its always nervy until you've shown them what you can do and they start to trust you. I still think Gonzalez is in the stage of proving himself among our players and because of that his confidence isnt high.

 

From what i saw of him in La Liga the ability is there and im confident hes going to get better and better.
