floyd the barber Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 really do..... kuyt, crouch and bellamy are great support strikers...but are not that clinical type which we obviously lack. We had the chances to win today..really did....and thats what makes it so depressing..Time for us to spend big in the summer and get a true world class proven finisher...
Magic8Ball Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Come back Mickey all is forgiven...Mickey would be injured for most of the season
anfield Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 We do need that. But even if we do buy one, they;re not allowed to stay in the box and have to track back and defend as well..... That said, aside from Gerrard, we really don't have a creative midfielder, Alonso and Sissoko really is not the kind of midfield that poses an attacking threat from the center...... These are the times when we could have used some magic from Garcia

floyd the barber Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 well we have the squad definetly, we just have to spend big on a proven striker....not like we have done before on someone young and overpriced....ie cisse and diouf.
Bootle Buck Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 We also need to play the game for the whole 90+ minutes too. I felt today we threatened them for a 15 minute spell after the break couldn't get a goal and then we got frustrated. Even when they went down to ten men we didn't up the tempo of the game.It is typical of the Mancs to keep at it for the whole game and come up with a winner.
floyd the barber Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 and yes i can see why bellamy was taken off......being rested for tuesday BUT we lost all momentum when he was off the field.....he was doing a fantastic job in closing down and generally being a pain in the ass. Thought Kuyt had another poor game.

Thought Kuyt had another poor game. I don't agree that Kuyt had a poor game, except that in the period when he was up on his own he was still coming deep and closing down. I thought he was more intelligent than that - we needed him to stay on their last man to give Gerrard space. As I've said in the match thread though, we've got no creativity - 90% of the time we get up to the box, think 'erm' and work it slowly out wide for a slow cross. Even when Bellamy's the only man in the box. Edited March 3, 2007 by LicK
psl Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Really not sure Kuyt is the answer. I know people who criticise him are often jumped upon but I don't think he's shown that he's top class. Maybe it'll take a year or so like Drogba.
Guest RedLegend Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 We have some decent strikers but we really need a great one to enable up to compete for the title.
DonRafa Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I betcha 'lil Luis would have scored today. We miss his magic.
floyd the barber Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 kuyt definetly has the quality....just seems to be suffering with the pace and strength of the premiership at the mo, like i said earlier....all our strikers are link players, a true poacher would work wonders for a partnership.
D.Boon Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 We battered them today and were unlucky but i agree we do need someone that doesnt need many chances to punish the opposition. Not a lot of them about though.
RafaShanks Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 (edited) "We desperately need a predator..." It's not that simple I'm afraid. We need a top notch left winger (Ribery in my opinion) before any striker. Our strikers didn't have many opportunties today and it's not as if VDS was making save after save. Utd were very comfortable today at times and held us at arms length pretty easily. Without Garcia, we lack invention in our midfield. Edited March 3, 2007 by RafaShanks

Our strikers didn't have many opportunties today and it's not as if VDS was making save after save. dunno about that.....that cross from bellamy in the first half which kuyt was late too.....a true predator would have been there..the chance from crouch....had tons of time, should really have scored.bellamys wayward shot when running through on goal first haf - maybe that one was harsh, but still should have hit the target at least.
Ombudsam Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Bellamy don't half put in some legwork. So does Kuyt come to think of it and crouch. Let's buy someone who put's in in the goal too. On the plus side we played well today albeit the mancs only came for a draw I think
Guz Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Only 3 clear chances on goal, one was offside and 2 long range efforts from Riise. Once again against a top team we struggle to make chances. How long has it been since one of our players scored against the c****? Sterile in attack too often, not enough players in the box and when we do get a chance or two it puts immense pressure on our forwards to score it and makes it even worse if they miss cos they might not get another chance all game. Granted, strikers should pounce on chances as if it's their last, but it's a two-fold problem.

Without Garcia, we lack invention in our midfield. Not sure which game you were watching but Utd were far from "very comfortable" you had Bellamy's dissalowed goal, plus when he was put through by Kujt and his first touch was poor, then theres the shot from Riise, the shot from Crouch we created more than enough to get 2 goals today. I agree though that its a real top quality striker we need, to compliment what we have as well as 1 top class attacking midfielder. But its tough to criticise the players today I thought we completely outplayed the team that will probably now win the title we are not far off Utd but they do have those 1 or 2 real world class attacking players that we dont.
Bootle Buck Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 It seems Rafa is dead set on Kuyt proving himself. In several games recently he has persisted with him for 90 minutes when he hasn't looked like scoring.
