R A Softlad Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 So he got 30 clean sheets last season but would have to keep 11 more out of a potential 16 more games to match that. Nice if he did. Another very solid season on the whole.
diggy Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Well considering his early season dip where he was nearly lynched, he has turned it round. It must be a dream to play with that defence though and they must also that a lot of credit.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Credit to the lad but I would imagine its down to the team ethos and work rate that reduces the number of chances put in front of him as opposed to him actually pulling off saves to beat the band.
jimmylibel Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Why do our own fans keep downplaying his part in the keeping of clean sheets? Yes the defence is excellent but Pepe is a big part of their success. Do you think they could push up as far as they do if they had a slower goalie behind them???
Guest The_Drunken_Clam Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 His stats are good, no doubt about that. Still think he looks kinda dodgy when he´s put under pressure.
CarraLegend Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 His stats are good, no doubt about that. Still think he looks kinda dodgy when he´s put under pressure. Like Van Der Sar at the weekend? Giving one goal away and choosing to batter someone in the area instead of staying on his line (Which he remarkably got away with). Everyone has their dodgy moments, they're human. Do you think they could push up as far as they do if they had a slower goalie behind them??? Is right, both deserve massive praise for our clean sheets, the whole team do but the "Its the defence that keeps all the clean sheets not Pepe" b******s does my f***ing head in.

Is clam a manc fan? or was vds just used as a random example? okay, dont bother. just read some posts and its obvious. Edited February 26, 2007 by windy city red

Because Rafa always talks about the team and not individuals and we all want to be like Rafa, no ?

It must be a dream to play with that defence though and they must also that a lot of credit. I can't write...for sure. Well the keeper gets the stick when the goals go in, so he should get the credit when they don't.
Swipe Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 He's not the best in the league, but he's not far from it. The odd dodgy moment aside, he's very solid. Just what we needed when we bought him. It doesn't matter how good a defence is, if there is a s**** keeper behind it, there won't be many shutouts. Simply impossible.
Cobs Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 anyone want to name a keeper that never has bad games/dodgy moments/loses their form ? feel free to go includde any keeper of the last 30-40 years if it helps....
Guest Anders Honoré Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 He was very dodgy early on, but he's been nothing less than exceptional since. One of the most important players in the side for me.
Keita Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 He is getting better every time, I hope he signs a extension soon.
Guz Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 He was dodgy earlier in the season, just his general vibe more than specific incidents. But then again, Carra was doing his best to fill the void left by Djimi Traore as well so it's unfair to single out one man. A keeper is always part of the defence, good or bad. I think he's been exceptional recently, as he was last year. West Ham and Barca away are the two games that stand out for me.
Igors Uncle Dave Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Pepe is a top quality keeper and one of the best around
growler Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Can I just say that westerweld and dudek both played behind awesome back 4's too, as did Taibi, aluminia, hilario.
4411 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Alonso and our strikers also have to take some credit. Kuyt, Crouch and Bellamy have worked their socks off almost every single game putting pressure on defenders and keepers and forcing them to kick the ball out of play while Alonso has just been superb in the tackle this season.

Another very solid season on the whole. Class act Pepe. Might not get to equal the 30, but 20 odd is still impressive enough. A peak, by definition, is not maintainable
Guest Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 pepe is awesome. Casillas, Valdes and even Barcamania's favourite teams goalkeeper, Palop, have all committed clangers and had patches of dodgy form this season.
fyds Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 He's not the best in the league, but he's not far from it. Oh, I think he is. Both United and Chelsea only have 19 goals in the league against them, as do we. We also have the highest number of clean sheets both in the league, and in total.

fyds Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Why have I just shuddered and had a terrible feeling that Pepe will now have a nightmare on Saturday morning? Cos you're a twot. I don't do the prediction stuff and ergo avoid 'mockers' - all that's stated above are the facts as is
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Am I the only one who thinks that Pepe's "**** up" against Newcastle wasn't really a "**** up" ? He did the right thing coming out to clear it. Pity Agger's ar$e was in the way. He was just unlucky.
