Does anyone wonder about why we didn't go for the mono-browed one as well as 'Mash'?

I'm very happy Mascherano is here, but I think Tevez would've been another great addition to the squad and handy too, as Garcia is out for a while.

Is it really just a case of Tevez wanting to stay at the Hammers, or is Rafa' simply not interested in him?

I'm kinda surprised we're not in for him. He's obviously a major talent and is equally obviously just as pissed off about the West Ham situation as Mascherano.

I reckon if we don't go for him then another top English club will do.

If Rafa wants him then I would think we'd be in a strong position to land him.

He (Tevez) was most wanted, of the two of them, by West Ham.

Also, during his time there, Mascherano all but admitted he'd made the wrong choice in going to West Ham and that it wasn't working out. He also said of Tevez, something like 'I may leave West Ham if they don't want me but Carlos will stay, he says the word failure isn't in his vocabulary'

Which is brave of him to admit that for him it was over and still remain positive enough to impress Rafa when they spoke.

As for us signing Tevez, I can only think that, like Mascherano we'll have been aware of him and monitoring him even before they arrived at the Hammers.

I can just see him staying if they are in the Championship next season!

Naturally he'll go in the summer but he was the more likely to stay past the january window because they are more short of strikers than defensive midfielders. At least, they are according to the limited tactical nouse of the likes of Curbishley and Pardew, neither of whom gave mascherano a real go.

If I was a West Ham fan i'd be wondering how they had these 2 great world class talents in their squad and did almost nothing to make them integral to their team.

Would have preferred him to Voronin, but would Tevez be happy at not being 3rd/4th choice striker playing a bit part role?

It's too late now, as the deal for Voronin is pretty much sealed and we need a prolific striker which Tevez ain't.

reading a bit of the West Ham forum when all this Mascher to us stuff started, they where indeed wondering! They where desperate for him to get games. Rumours as to why he wasn't played included his contract being some wierd pay per game deal. Yet, that can't be the case here, so why his contract at WHU would be different, and also different to Tevez, is beyond me.

It's especially odd when you consider the bog standard to poor players that Pardew and Curbishley picked ahead of him.

I think he would be quite happy being 1st/2nd choice, which I also think is realistically where he would figure in the pecking order. For the right price, he'd be a good signing, though I am not sure he'd be the goalscorer we could use.

We were allowed to sign Mashcerano cos he'd hardly featured for West Ham. Though Tevez hasn't featured as much as you might have expected I don't think we could've made a case that he was suffering because he wasn't getting regular football.

Talented player, but not for us at the moment. I hope that we've bigger fish to fry come the summer. Tevez's best work is done outside the box - like pretty much every striker in the squad bar Fowler. We need the option of a fit, prime Horseface type character. IMO.

That's true - and given that Tevez is nominally the higher profile, and likely higher 'fee' player, it's reasonable to assume his contract would not be a carbon copy of Mascherano's.

Tevez's never been a goalscorer, he's the type that puts defenders on their back pedals whenever he has the ball, exactly what we need!

Even so, it'd make sense to pay as you play Mascherano, as opposed ot going out and signing mr relegation Nigel Quashie for that position.

Top scorer in Brazil in his first season there wasn't he?

What's up with his neck? Looks like he's had his throat cut! Accident like Ribery?

Wikipedia says the scar extends down to his chest! Bloody hell. Hasn't had plastic surgery as it would have meant he had to stop playing football for 4 months.

Had to laugh at the West ham fan in the Observer on sunday. A fan of every club are asked to rate their team out if ten. The West ham fan gave Tevex 10 and everyone else 0 and 1.
