RafaShanks Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 (edited) Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has lined up Bayer Leverkusen's Ukraine striker Andrei Voronin as a summer signing. (Daily Mail) Anyone that was on here late last night would have seen the carnage on here as someone posted this from the scum. Ukrainian international is 27 and a supposed to be a playmaker. His career stats: Years Club App (Gls)* 1995-2000 Borussia Mönchengladbach 7 (1)2000-2002 FSV Mainz 05 (D1) 75 (29)2003-2004 FC Köln 19 (5)2004- Bayer Leverkusen 69 (27) The only goal I could find on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkZp8O3kAak Edited February 17, 2007 by RafaShanks
McBain Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 A ponytail and Status Quo I feel queasy just watching that clip
Stevie H Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 thought he was ukraine's best player in the world cup last year.
Jezzman Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Is he playing up front in a 442 with Shevchenko, or behind him in a 451 ?
ChrisC Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 A contender for worst barnet in the premier if he does sign! And theres no place for Status quo in football either!!
Magic8Ball Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 so what is he ? a striker or an "in the hole" playmaker ? and how good is he ?
John am Rhein Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 and how good is he ? Not as good as Ballack whose over-ratedness is now plain to see. Berbatov's done better than I'd have expected, mind. But I still think it holds that the Bundesliga is actually a long long way behind the English Premier League in quality and you have to consider that when evaluating how good these players are. It's not there all rubbish, but a lot of them are not as good as they seem to be.
alias75 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Hasnt been mentioned but he would be a Bosman which may explain it, if there is any truth behind this story though it could mean one of the 3 strikers being sold if we want to bring in a real top class player. This guy may take Robbies place as 4th choice but its clear we need someone a little bit special, could mean Crouch or Bellamy will be moved on to make that happen?

alias75 Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 True but i dont see that superstar forward among Bellamy, Crouch and Kuyt, all 3 are more than useful but i think we need someone really special. There are a few possibles at the moment especially with the new owners, Torres, Villa even Eto after the events of the last week.

There are a few possibles at the moment especially with the new owners, Torres, Villa even Eto after the events of the last week.Villa wont come - he wants to stay where he is - though we've been linked several times Eto'o - who wouldn't have preferred this guy to Cisse, come to think of it most would prefer Drogba to Cisse - the problem is his attitude - seems to be at the center of a row at Barca Torres - lots and lots of pace, seems overrated to me, but maybe young enough to improve - certainly has the talent to do what Eto'o does for all this talk about strikers - I still think what we really need are 2 free scoring wide players - CF Robben and Duff for Chelsea when they were winning things Ideally a pair of say Queresima and Alves would be great .... did anyone see C Ronaldo and Queresima in the recent internationals ?
RafaShanks Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007 Story could be b****x but if true, Rafa and staff have probably watched him on several occasions and has probably seen something in him like he did with Crouchy for example. I haven't seen enough of him to pass comment.

I haven't seen enough of him to pass comment. Last 4 seasons tallies:- 2006/2007 (so far) 7 in 202005/2006 7 in 272004/2005 17 in 282003/2004 5 in 19
Gary Wolf Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Voronin would be nonsense.A hard-working Ukranian forward (by no means a playmaker), like many of them are, but a chop of wood.Really I fancied him but for my native Russian Fc Rostov
Maldini Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Good player, plays behind the forward(s). He can be sensational but he's pretty inconsistent, not sure he's good enough for us, I imagine he's being lined up as an alternative to someone else.

Or to bump his signing on fee with Celtic (as I read they've been after him for a while)?
floyd Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Hasnt been mentioned but he would be a Bosman which may explain it,We don't do Bosman's know. Wer'e fvckin loaded
Guest Kev Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 More than being linked, everything is agreed apparently for a summer move.
CaptainXabi Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 He'll just take Robbies place I think.Sure, but I still don't get it. He's not that good and wouldn't it just be easier and more fruitful to give Pongolle a crack at 4th striker?
CarraLegend Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Sure, but I still don't get it. He's not that good and wouldn't it just be easier and more fruitful to give Pongolle a crack at 4th striker? But that all depends on Pongolle doesnt it? He's said loads of times he wants to play and if he's just restricted to Robbie playing time he wont want it by the look of it.
Guest Jens Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 The Kicker today quoted its own and Ukrainian sources that a deal has been agreed, but later edited the story and added that it´s now apparently also been confirmed by his agent. The Kicker usually is a very reliable magazine that is published twice a week. Celtic and Dinamo Kiev were the other interested teams and Voronin says that he wants to leave Germany after 10 years, but doesn´t quite want to return home yet. I think Voronin is a fine, but inconsistent, player myself, but I really don´t see how he could possibly fit in at Liverpool as he isn´t better than Crouch, Bellamy or Kuijt. Especially as he´s recently lost his place at Leverkusen as Kiessling is starting to find his form after his summer move from Nürnberg. Bit puzzling as he doesn´t have the quality to hold down a regular place at one of the top 4 clubs IMO. It´s not like he´s young, either. Maybe you´re selling Bellamy?
wacko Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Leverkusen without the Quo doesn't even bear thinking about. For the record, Schalke play "I Will Survive" when they score.
