Gomez Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Daily Post It would be sad to see him go but I can't see him ever catching up with Reina and if he's not happy being number two then better to sell with 2 years on his contract than cut price in a year or so. They paid £12m for an unproven prospect. They can pay a hell of a lot more than £5m for Carson.FFS if he was at Southampton or Charlton they'd be talking about £10m for him because he's English.
Leo No.8 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Carson for me is currently the best English goalkeeper, I'd say considering his age we'd want a lot more than £5m if we were to sell him. However, one thing to be mindful of is it's always a great situation for a goalkeeper when he's playing in a crap side, he gets to make loads of saves. The mark of a truly great keeper is the one who can do absolutely nothing for 88 minutes then pull off a great stop. Not taking anything away from him though, Carson has been absolutely brilliant for Charlton.

Much prefer the way Reina plays as a sweeper keeper (last Saturday aside!) For me Ben Foster is the best English keeper.
Bigal Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I wouldnt sell him at all. very good goal keeper Red & Green said: For me Ben Foster is the best English keeper. NO. HE. ISNT.

Gomez Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 Bigal said: I wouldnt sell him at all. So you'd keep him for the next two years knowing he will go on a free and not sign a new contract as he is unhappy?Or would you replace Reina with him? Bigal said: NO. HE. ISNT.Very true, on current form it's DJ, but we know he crumbles in the big matches, never really liked Robinson, though he was there by default, Carson will be the future England number 1, and we should exploit the English tax that is added to every England player fringe or established.

Might sound daft this but, couldnt the boss keep him sweet in the meantime? Or possible rotation? If we had carson at the club may he have a got a game earlier in the season when Reina was out of form?

Stevie H Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 wouldn't carson be one of our home-grown british players after that fifa ruling thing comes in?

Gilps Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Considering who good and how young they both are, it isn't going to be sustainable having both Reina and Carson at the club in the long term. So we'd be mad not to look at a serious offer, even if it is a pity that it would allow Arsenal to solve a long term problem of their own.

Will Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Let them have him. For £5m I would drive him there myself (all the way across London....) - he's hardly anything special, just English.

Boca Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Padelli is anxious to join us permanently in the summer, so maybe £5-6m for Carson and Padelli as back up to Pepe wouldn't be such a bad deal.

Bent, Bale, Walcott, Young. None of them are worth what they have either been sold for or have been offered.

Clay Davis Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 think hes pretty good, unproven though.if arsenal really wanted him - then we really should be getting around £8-£10m for him. its only fair if you look at the english market.
McBain Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 He's enhanced his reputation in part because he's playing in a poor side and has a lot of shots to save. In a team like Liverpool (or Arsenal) you get maybe one or two a game and you have to make them. That's why Pepe is so good. When the oppo get their chance he invariably keeps it out Carson could be agreat keeper but we haven't seen it yet. Talk of £5m is off though. If it's Arsenal then quote em double that. Charlton would pay £5m
