BBC: "Moores was not present at the official announcement, with Parry saying it was probably "the worst day of his life" and the "biggest decision".

But in a statement he said: "This club is my passion and forms a huge part of my life. After much careful consideration, I have agreed to sell my shares to assist in securing the investment needed for the new stadium and for the playing squad. "

We may have asked for a better Chairman these past few years but I doubt we could have found many better. That you for being such a great custodian of our club Mr Moores. The football world has moved beyond your means and rather than run up huge debts and hang on to the club for personal vanity, you saw the future and, eventually and not without trial, found necessary cash.

Good post, Tosh. Agree entirely. The whole process seems to have been very arduous (?) but he took his time and hopefully has made the right decision. I have no doubt he made the decision with the club at heart regardless of what some want to believe.

I was going to start a thread on this. I'd like to thank David Moores for everything he has done over the years. His quotes go to show how much he loves the club.

My favourite quote from this morning's post:

"No-one can ever take away from me the fact that I was chairman on the night we won the Champions League in Instanbul".

Class.

I think he's total class. Many accusations have been made about his supposed lack of business acumen and they may be very true, I don't know.

But he has presided over the appointment of Rafa, he was Chairman in Istanbul and he has now pulled off what appears to be a great deal to secure the short and medium term future of the Club.

I've always trusted Parry and Moores. I don't know why, complete naivety perhaps. They've always just seemed honest, hard working and competent to me.

I'm glad Parry has kept his job and I'm glad Moores will still be around.

Second that.

He was chairman for his love of the club. Never wanted to make money and never wanted to be in the headlines. A great chairman. Hope he is still around the club.

Rafa's message to Mr Moores in the Echo

Benitez has also paid tribute to departing chairman David Moores.

?I want to say thankyou to David Moores,? he said. ?Thankyou for the support you have given me since I came to Liverpool. Thankyou for bringing me to Liverpool, and thankyou for everything you have done for the club.

?It was not an easy decision for him to sell Liverpool, but he has shown he is a good person and a nice person. I?m happy he still has a role to play in the future and hope we can share more success together in the future.?

Couldn't agree more with this. No-one can surely deny how much he feels for the club. It looks like DM has done the best thing possible and he and RP found the best deal possible. From being a sceptic I just watched all the press conference on the Offish and just got more and more positive. The 3 year search looks like it will have been worth it. I hope that proves to be so - all intentions look good at least.

Spot-on this thread. He may look like Freddie Boswell but he's given everything for the club for decades. I hope he is rewarded by seeing his decision to sell turn into more titles and cups.

I think he's probably had at least one day that was worse than yesterday

IMO the position he will hold now is exactly the position he SHOULD hold and am pleased it has turned out this way

I'm not so sure about Parry's long term future; I think what happens to him next depends on his ego and common sense, to an extent, so can't comment

but anyway, well done boys, you delivered investment and know how; I'll always think you took too long and that it was under duress, but so what? it's done now

Personally i believe Parry will see out the construction of the stadium. This makes sense as he has been involved from the start and understands all the issues involved. After the big opening i would not be surprised if KOP have a new CEO in mind.

Edit: Timing would be good also as they will have time to find the right replacement, having said that i would not be disappointed if he is still there.

There should be a Moores mosaic on the Kop asap IMO

Agreed, the Manchester United game seems the perfect time.

A Class Act who has always acted in a professional manner. He stayed away from the press when many other Chairman hogged it and never went overboard when we had success. I hope he is allowed to remain a big part of the club and I'm sure the Moores family will continue to be big benefactors to Liverpool FC.

Agree with that. I do think that whoever deals with marketing and strategy in that area is a bit short on business acumen and that probably lies with either Parry, Moores or both of them. Other than that they brought us Rafa, the European Cup and have always done best by the club and the fans.

For that I have the utmost respect.

they also had a very difficult line to tread with regard all that type of thing - trying to keep us "old school" if you like, whilst trying to make the most of our name. although we could perhaps have been marketed more and to greater effect, it doesn't mean it would have been better.

I don't disagree.

A class chairman, knew what the club was all about.Always carried himself the Liverpool Way and did what he thought was best for the club.

In an era of Doug Ellis's,he gave the managers support both publicly and privately.

Thanks for everything.
