badtodabone Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 thats almost something shanks could have said
JonShar Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Did he really say that? Is there a source? If he did, he just went from being my hero to being my hero AND man-crush.
psl Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 He did say it in his post match interview with Sky.
fyds Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Also 'One team wanted to win today while the other just didn't want to lose' He can be Shanks like in his bite
psl Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Also 'One team wanted to win today while the other just didn't want to lose' He can be Shanks like in his bite Like someone else said though, lets see how much attacking we do at the Nou Camp.
RafaShanks Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 He can be Shanks like in his bite Oh yes!!
andyc Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Did he really say that? Is there a source? If he did, he just went from being my hero to being my hero AND man-crush. Ya it was hillarious! Wat a legend! Clemence's reaction was the funniest though wen they cut back to studio. He jsu tsaid that Everton were of course a big club but u cud sense he wanted to piss himself..quality viewin
fyds Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Like someone else said though, lets see how much attacking we do at the Nou Camp.Different thing entirely though - that's an away leg of a two handed cup tie where away goals count double - this was a league game.
Benzo-13 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Different thing entirely though - that's an away leg of a two handed cup tie where away goals count double - this was a league game. Exactly.. You just never know with Rafa though, we could attack them in the Nou Camp.. Brilliant biting quote though...
Maldini Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 We're going to tear Barca apart. We'll miss Garcia though.
Benzo-13 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 We're going to tear Barca apart. We'll miss Garcia though. Really missed Little Luis today. We would need some games into Kewell before that but it ain't gonna happen.. Hopefully Mascherano gets integrated pretty quick and we can pass them off the park. Our midfield is easily as good as their's.. Just have to keep it away from their attack!
Maldini Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 They've better penetration out wide though, Ronaldinho and Messi if he's fit are world class. Gerrard will be important as ever. I think we can hit them on the break, I've watched them a couple of times recently and they tend to back off when the other team is breaking, nobody closes them down. Gerrard can drive at them and pull them all over the shop if he's up for it. Pennant will be important too, their LBs are all defensively suspect.
psl Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Different thing entirely though - that's an away leg of a two handed cup tie where away goals count double - this was a league game. Fair enough. I just don't blame them though. They're not as good as us, knew we'd take them apart like we have several others at home if they opened up so kept it tight and defended well. It was suggested to Moyes in his interview that this was 'a very different game to the one at Goodison' and he said that it wasn't, we played well at Goodison and they hit us on the break and took their chances. Same thing happened today but they didn't score from their limited chances.
Benzo-13 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 (edited) I think we've gotta good chance if Momo plays.. I'd even favour a narrow three of a Mascherano, Sissoko, Alonso with Gerrard, Kewell (or Bellamy or Gonzo) and Kuyt up front as they're busy players who close down quick. They have to have near zero time on the ball. Edited February 3, 2007 by Benzo-13
Maldini Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I'd play Kuyt and Crouch. They won't be used to playing teams who hold the ball up and have players breaking from midfield. The no-mans-land between the midfield and the defence will be where we'll win the game.

The no-mans-land between the midfield and the defence will be where we'll win the game. True, that is a key area we can exploit as they play Edmilson in there and he's really a centre-back and fairly immobile and has brutal ball control. Edited February 3, 2007 by Benzo-13
McBain Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I'd play Kuyt and Crouch. They won't be used to playing teams who hold the ball up and have players breaking from midfield. The no-mans-land between the midfield and the defence will be where we'll win the game. The way Kuyt's been playing the last couple they wont be used to strikers whose control goes 6 yards in the air either If we're talking about an away game then Bellamy always plays
swampyjocks Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 "Playing against a small team, it is not always easy when they have nine men behind the ball," source
Barnesy_10 Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 was watching the footy latest show, and that little fella who presents it read the quote out and made a big deal about it and question Thompson about his thoughts... Thommo was surprised that Rafa came out with it... and then the presenter made clear his disapproval that a manager should act like that
Maldini Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I don't think Rafa meant it in an insulting way, more in a factual way. They are a small team, they came here to defend, small teams do that all the time.
impware Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 ... and then the presenter made clear his disapproval that a manager should act like that What's the big deal? Rafa was only repeating what we were singing; "You're just a small team from Kirkby"
Guest Scot Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Is it just me that thinks it smalltime and classless?
