magneto Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Not rocket science but I think the reason we're getting all these players now is that teams hold out for any last-minute offers from other clubs.
Kite Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 It's just like getting married. I didn't have to pay several million on a wife though...
Guest bumfluff mcclatchey Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I didn't have to pay several million on a wife though... Not yet, you don`t!
Huyton_Red Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 (edited) Or we have now moved far enough forward with DIC for them to sanction us spending money Edited January 30, 2007 by Huyton_Sissoko
maldini11 Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 but we arent spending that much money..its mostly young kids on loan deals..except for arbeloa
Bootle Buck Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Maybe we don't want other clubs sniffing around the talent we want. Therefore, Rafa has kept it quiet and late.

Flasher Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 The transfer window is the cause of this problem. All of the selling clubs know there is a definitive date. This in turn means they can be patient and wait for the best offer. Without the transfer window, said clubs would possibly lose out on a deal, so would be more inclined to finish a deal at a more reasonable price for the buyer. If you were selling a house, with a close date of 31st Jan 2007 for all offers. What would you do, take the first offer or wait to see who makes the best offer and sell to them on the 31st? A bit simplistic I know, but valid IMO. Sometimes clubs get too greedy though, and leave it too late - see Benfica last year with you know who
Andyjandy Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I didn't have to pay several million on a wife though... Ray Parlour did.
dyl Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 It's to stop Newcastle stepping in at the last minute..........
Eskimo Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 (edited) More inclined to say forward thinking than anything else, apart from today's signings most were done and dusted weeks back so hardly last minute. Edited January 30, 2007 by Eskimo
Magic8Ball Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 More inclined to say forward thinking than anything else, apart from today's signings most were done and dusted weeks back so hardly last minute.pre season training should be interesting next year - I suspect we will only be after one player this summer Alves -if we get him soon then pre season training could start alot sooner and lead to our getting of to a flyer next season
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 .....or its because Parry and Benitez fear the Forum backlash from fans for not signing BiG nAmEs and panic buy anybody right at the end to save their necks !

As for the youngsters it seems logical to get them in now as it gives them plenty of time to get used to a new country, league etc and by pre-season they might even be ready to push for a 1st team spot..
fyds Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 SiGn Alexanderopoulos Popadoupalous now while we still can!

You've lost me on that one.
Magic8Ball Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 If we only sign one player then we'll come back for pre-season training earlier??? You've lost me on that one.just meant that if we weren't negotiating transfer fees and had all the players we wanted we could start pre season earlier if we wanted too. Of course thinking about it, the one player ( assuming it is one ) that we want could still take all summer to land so ignore that sentence. I'm just high on optimism
