Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Dutch youngster Jordy Brouwer from Ajax.

The 18 year old striker is the latest of Rafael Benitez's youth recruits as the manager continues his policy of planning for the club's future.

Daniele Padelli and Emiliano Insua have already signed for the Reds during this month's transfer window and now Brouwer - who plays for the Dutch under-19 side - has swapped Ajax for Anfield.

"We have made a good signing for the future in Jordy," said chief executive Rick Parry.

"He has had a youth contract at Ajax, but has opted to build his career at Liverpool.

"We have been monitoring his progress and look forward to developing his potential at Anfield."

The last Jordy to play in England wasnt THAT good .... anyhow anyone know much about this player

I read somewhere that Brouwer ( why do I think of Jack Baur ??) Brouwer was a tall striker

something like a cross between Crouch and Kuyt ... wonder if thats good ?

Any ideas how good this player is and his playing style ?

A commentator said 'Cruyt and Kouch' by accident a couple of months ago - he'd be a bit like that...

I've never seen him play in all honesty but strangely it doesn't even seem certain Ajax were going to offer Brouwer professional terms - but Rafa must have seen something in him he likes...

Not being funny but a cross btw Crounch and Dirk would be brilliant.

I heard about Emiliano Insua but first time I've heard of Daniele Padelli, anyone know when this deal happened and what position he plays?

Thanks:-)

isn't padelli the young goalkeeper?

Fairly sure Leto has been confirmed.

We don't have many options upfront. It is conceivable he was signed solely for the reserves. Like Castello (??) was last season.

Ajax technical director Martin van Geel claimed he was surprised by Liverpool's interest as they were unsure if Brouwe was good enough to make the breakthrough at the Amsterdam ArenA.

"We didn't have the complete conviction that he was ready for it," Van Geel told AD Sportwereld

"Internally we have talked about Jordy a lot.

"That doubt stayed after Liverpool expressed their interest.

"I say that without bitterness, because I wish Jordy all the success at Liverpool."

Doesn't sound bitter at all does it?

I don't like the comment from the Ajax lot. They're not exactly a mickey mouse outfit, if he was that good then surely he would've been tied down by Ajax pretty early on.

Still happy to wait until I've signed him on FM2007 to make a full appraisal of the lad's ability.

So, he's worth talking about, a lot, maybe not ready for it' (hardly 'not going to make it') and...

We're not bitter :)

Couple of points

1 its possible hes signed for the reserves only

2 its possible that he doesnt play "the dutch" way - maybe hes too physical or great at route 1 football ie holding up the ball, laying it off and scoring etc - this is often not seen as good enough for the dutch who seem more interested in dribbling and touch - in contrast it could be ideal for this league

3 ( I know couple implies 2 ) he could just be our Mista ( no more talk about broken wings - which we surely have ;) )
