I am on an Aus forum for expats and some bluenose is saying Liverpool has more Blues than Reds....

Is there written proof I can shove up his ar*e? This is what he says

"I wasnt jokin. Its not a myth that most of the people in the merseyside area are blues. As our own Moysey said "The people on the streets of Liverpool support Everton" and he werent wrong."

Ask him why they only got 24,000 for their FA cup tie on Sunday, despite reduced ticket prices.

Also ask him why the Everton shop in Liverpool City Centre had to close down

Posted

And ask him why there are more people wearing Liverpool gear than Everton.

The fact we are both in Aus I cant use that one, the others I can, esp the shop. keep em coming cheers !!!!

That's a good one. It all started with that pic of SG in an EFC shirt.

It's quite laughable really. When I was a kid in Liverpool and we were emerging from our spell in the 2nd Division and Everton were 1963 champions we still seemed to have more fans than them. I moved house several times and there were always more Liverpool fans no matter what part of the city I lived in. There always seemed to be a token Evertonian in any group of mates. We weren't being picky, there just weren't as many of them around. Since they've been relatively much less successful in the ensuing 40 years it would beggar belief to assume that somehow their fanbase in the city has overtaken Liverpool's.

Because of our worldwide fanbase it's true that a greater proportion of their fans, percentage wise, live in Liverpool than do Liverpool fans, but in absolute numbers we always seem to have 4 or 5 times as many fans as them in the city.

Where does that peoples club thing come from?

Bill Shankly said it about Liverpool. Somebody at Everton told Moyes to say it when he came and they've been using it as some sort of standard ever since

It's worse than that though. I was in Liverpool with two mates from down south about 18 months ago and they wanted to go to Anfield, so one of them (an Arsenal fan) could buy a souvenir for his more sensible sister (a Liverpool fan). Driving up from downtown Liverpool on a Sunday I offered to take them past Woodison on the way to show them what a dump it was. As we approached it, watching the tumbleweed blowing across the deserted road, I was surprised to see that they have a bloody big sign saying "The People's Club" on the stadium itself! Sad really. Needless to say that when we drove round the corner to Anfield, in contrast to the empty streets round their "stadium" (their club shop was actually closed) there was a large throng of people outside Anfield, a queue to get into the museum, a steady stream of people heading to the ground on foot and a coach of our Norwegian friends pulled up in the car park to go to the shop (we'd played at home the day before). The contrast between the following of the two clubs couldn't have been more stark.

Liverpool have also taken over the Everton shop in Chester.

....not strictly true.

They had a shop at the front of the Grosvenor Precinct.

We're around the corner on Eastgate Street in the old Athena Shop.

Symbolically true though!

Definitely more reds than blues in and around Liverpool, more local blues go to the game though.

Something i'd forgot, when i went to the Deltasonic Christmas Party at the carling academy they were raffling of a Liverpool shirt and an Everton shirt. When they were brought on stage for the raffle, the liverpool shirt got a huge cheer and a smattering of boos whilst the Everton shirt got huge boos and a smattering of cheers. Not scientific i know but there were about 2000-2500 people in there and i'd imagine a pretty fair cross section of local people as it was a celebration for a local music label.

Now i'd always thought that support was 50-50 for the two clubs and that the argument was ridiculous, I'd say its more like 65-35 in liverpools favour at the moment.
