with the recent injuries to Garcia and Gonzalez i think the choice for left back left mid is fairly obvious. Warnock took a know in the game too, although they said he was ok, would he be ok to play against watford?

That's probably about right, although it only highlights how badly we need a new LB.

Leaving aside the issue of whether his defending is up to scratch, he is simply too injury-prone to rely on as a first-choice.

my concern is that none of our three candidates for left-back is actually a left-back. they've all flirted with two or three positions throughout their careers. would like us to sign a shoo-in, specialist left-back. a finnan equivalent for the other flank.

Where has Warnock played before? Always had him down as a left-back specialist?

Fair dos - I wouldn't have said that spells in those positions move him away from a Finnan-type fullback though. Certainly Finnan has played RM (albeit with little success) and we all know Carra can play pretty much anywhere in defence. Baines is an excellent shout for a long-term LB.

I'd go for that, but after the last couple of days, and particularly this morning, I'd rather have ressies keeper on the bench, or do a SUFC Colin job and put Carra between the posts in an emergency.

good point well made. Must admit to being far from convinced by Warnock, but the way that Riise is playing at the moment I'd put Warnock in behind Aurelio against Watford.

 

I think Left Back is one of our most pressing concerns.

I think we need to keep the back four as steady as possible, as with recent league successes.

 

As a result, I'd play Warnock as left mid. That's where he started. Only recently ( by Rafa first I think) was he considered as a left back.
