Wouldn't say Neville was better than Finnan. Zanetti's about 83. He was better than Finnan two seasons ago though. Miguel isn't anything special but is a good player. Rather have Finnan. Sagnol's solid, much like Finnan. Alves is a funny one. Better going forward, not as good defensively.

 

So do go on. You're currently on one from three years ago. Zambrotta's better than Finnan.

Zanetti was the best right back in the world a couple of years ago but he's nowhere near the player he used to be. Wasn't in the Argie WC squad either although it may possibly have been nothing to do with playing qualities

this is my problem with the forums overpraise/love for Finnan, its too biased towards him and little embarrassing how high you guys overrate him, he is a good solid consistent player that is all though, He is nowhere near the top 5-8 players in his position.

Have you seen much of Sagnol this year? I thought he was past it as well but he's done very well. Zanetti is still a quality player also

b******s. The facts are he gets praise because there aren't many better and he does his job to a very high standard. It is a very week pool worldwide, fullback generally is at the moment. Cafu and Carlos are gone, Zambrotta is probably in a class of his own, Alves is the coming man, and Gary Neville rarely has a less than very good game. It maybe by default, as we're not in an era of Maldini, Lizrarazu, Thuram etc, but Finnan can rightly consider himself inside the top 8 right backs as things stand.

I've not really been a fan of his, never saw it, he raved about as I saw it because of reflected glory from the other french fullback, and being part of that World Champion squad. Whenever I've seen him in the CL or for France over the past couple of years I've not been that impressed, although I will gladly admit to not watching him week in week out. Somewhere someone is saying the same about Finnan!

I'd put him in the 7-10. I'm not sure I go for red tinted to be honest, thinking about my opinions on our squad compared to most. Trouble with Finnan is he's not a player you'd notice, a Dennis Irwin type, so not the kind oppo fans point out. Riise for example is considered a better player than Finnan and is raved about by alot of oppo fans. If he wasn't a c*** you wouldn't notice Neville either.

Please do...and there's no way on this planet that Alves, Neville, Sagnol and Zanetti are better than him. Zanetti ? Are you playing Championship Manager 01/02 ? Good player but well past his best.

 

I just have to see the criticisms of Finnan to know that many of his detractors are looking for stats out of 20.

Why, may I ask?

I'd say Finnan and Neville were very close indeed and quite similar. Think Finnan's delivery with both feet is superior to Neville's but I'd say Neville was a slightly better defender aerially. Apart from that they are very similar players.

 

Denis Irwin is an excellent comparison with Finnan but I'd even say there that Finnan's a better footballer but Irwin had more impact with his set pieces.

 

I rate Neville very highly.
