god Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 hello, long time no post. anyways, just wanted to share a quick thought. i know we already have the precedent of a team from wales playing the english leagues, but given that wales isn't a real country anyways (haha), you couldn't really use it to justify clubs from other countries leaving their respective leagues for more lucrative ones. now, i assume the mls is sanctioned by fifa. they have just approved the addition of a canadian "franchise" to their previously all-american league. could this open the door at all for celtic or rangers to make the jump to the premiership, or for other big clubs from smaller countries to band together in the name of the almighty dollar / pound / euro?

Answer is - NO, and anyway, who wants trash like Celtic and Rangers (who I pressume don't come from a real country either in this league? Don't see the point to any of that. We have European competitions. What makes you think that teams from some smaller countries want to join other leagues? As for US/Canada, most the big leagues over there have teams that span both nations, just the norm, no big deal.
monkey puzzle Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Don't think so. Footy is a growing sport in N. America and the league is still relatively new. Nearly all the european leagues are fairly well esthablished. The CL is already a super league anyway.
Crazy Horse Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Isn't Mo Johnston their manager? If he does well maybe Rangers will poach him.

R A Softlad Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Isn't Mo Johnston their manager? If he does well maybe Rangers will poach him. Yes his is. They recently did open trials too, much like the Eagles in 'Invincible'.
