Are we interested in Mascherano?

From SSN:

Unhappy West Ham United midfielder Javier Mascherano has demanded a move away from Upton Park.

Mascherano is unhappy with his lack of first-team football and is keen to move on in a bid to get his career back on track.

The Argentine international has hardly had a look-in under Alan Curbishley and he believes he has no choice but to seek a move.

"I must get out of here. I cannot stay at West Ham any more like this, without playing," said Mascherano.

"At my age, my game will only stagnate if I do not get the chance to play.

"I came to England to do well, but I have not had the opportunities necessary to show what I can do.

"If I am not playing in the West Ham team, I will have to leave to continue my career with another side."

Liverpool could be ready to rescue Mascherano from his West Ham nightmare, with reports suggesting they are lining up a move for the 22-year-old.

Is Mascherano what we thought he was prior to him joining the EPL? Another thing is that are we really interested in him? Discuss

Rafa was asked about him last week and didnt dismiss it, i think hed be an excellent signing. Forget what you've seen in the handful of games hes had at west Ham, hes a quality midfielder and this couldnt be a better time to sign a real top player for a knock down price.

The obvious problem is the MSI situation but im certain we're interested if that part can be sorted out to our satisfaction.

Have you ever seen him play.?

I have to say, I was impressed with him at the World Cup. I realise we would be taking a chance but if he his potential is that great then £6mln is not a big risk. I also think if did start to develop then we would have an excellent midfield quartet

also the major hurdle that he has already played for two clubs this season and needs to beg fifa to get approval for him to play for a third. until that is sorted we don't have the cash to burn

Thats what i think.

Its the same with tevez, who i have seen play and is for me baros mk2. These 2 players have highly over inflated reputations and are no where near the worlds best.

of course ive seen him play, first saw him at the Youth World Cup a few years back when he was awesome, completely dictated the play for Argentina and was one of those players that plays like a veteran in terms of his awareness despite his young age (similar to Alonso). Havent seen much of him for River Plate or Corinthians but ive seen him numerous times for the Argentina first team and hes always impressed me. One of those players thats always available and keeps things ticking over, plus his positional play is superb in terms of protecting the central defenders.

If the fee of 6 million is accuarte its a very low risk move (depending on the MSI situation)

My West Ham supporting mate reckons the irony is, when Maschereno and Tevez actually play they work their bollicks off for the cause. Nobody can work out why they're benched so often.

All the West Ham fans I know are the same. They think Tevez has been great for them when he's actually used and his team mates bother giving him the ball.

So is he a Makele like player?

Pay per game?

He's a fantastic player, he's almost as good as Alonso, that's how highly I rate him.

I agree totally, although in my head he'd be more of a Momo type player but (dare I say it?) better - certainly more skillful and composed. Whoever said Makelele wasn't a bad shout really.

Yeah, Cristiano Ronaldo is just way out there on his own these days. Maybe we should wait and see what Tony Cascarino thinks of Mascherano.

According to one or two west ham mates it is widely known that Mascherano is the best trainer at their club and has tried his best to fit in with everybody at the club and looked to remain positive. But the latest shun he has received from the management is the final straw and they fear he will move on and become the player that so many expect.

A pacier Makelele is how I look at him, not quite the passing skills of Xabi but certainly an upgrade on French Claude. He'd be a fabulous signing, anyone who saw him in the World Cup would agree.

Admittedly I haven't seen that much of him but I thought his preferred role was the one that Alonso currently has for us.

From what i've seen, which is more for Argentina than WH, he plays the holding/tackling role like momo but better on the ball. Someone like Xabi could easily play alongside him.

We have good options in CM but this an occasion where a top quality player may be available at a reduced price.

Back of the Echo has "Benitez eyes double swoop" or something and has a pic of Mascherano, think the other bit mentions Neill, cant make it out properly though

Yeah, he is like a more athletic Makalele, great defensive positioning and very effective in posession. He offers a bit more going forward than Makelele.

I have to admit I can't remember his performances in the world cup, but since Didi left we have had no one who can take the sting out of the opposition when we are on the rack. If he plays the holding role in any way like Makelele or defends thew defence as didi I'd have to say we have a vacancy
