jfogarty Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 The UK markets and some Irish ones havent twigged that Shelbourne are no hopers this year and they are as short as 2/1 for the league Half of their title winning team are gone and the rest is in a legal battle to get their contracts terminated so they can leave on free transfers. This should be finalised by the end of the week so they will be left with their U-21 team and a few reserves. There is also no manager or fulltime coaches at the club. Pre-season arrangements are yet to be announced!!!! Most clubs are back training in the next 2 weeks In group B of the Setanta cup they are odds on to win the group and Cork City are 6/4. Portadown are 9/1 with Corals which is an unbelievable price considering the group will be a 2 horse race. In the league Drogheda are signing Shelbournes star players and adding to what was already a great squad. Drogheda, Derry, Cork and Shels were the big 4 last season and now its a big 3 If you LAY on the exchanges then Shelbourne are a must at currnet oddsDrogheda are 7/1 to win the league with Corals so if you do an e/w bet you are making money Bet big on Cork in Group B of the Setanta and hedge it with Portadown, its more money in the bank
aka Dus Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I heard Ollie Byrne on Newstalk briefly this evening. Man is utterly utterly deluded.
jfogarty Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 I heard Ollie Byrne on Newstalk briefly this evening. Man is utterly utterly deluded. Heard it myself, was all a bit mad wasnt it?? The lad that was presenting (Eoin McDevitt I think) kept asking straight forward questions that Ollie refused to answer! Its fairly obvious that the property developers have them by the balls and their only escape is a supporters buyout ala Rovers which is unlikely to happen seen as their support is down 40%. Also how did they get a license to play in Champions League when they cant pay the players, nevermind the Eircom League license ??? But back to the main point there is good money to be made here!!

But back to the main point there is good money to be made here!!Laughable, isn't it? Three winding-up orders in as many years or something. They definitely have some seriously incriminating evidence on every single official at the eircom League and the FAI to have continually escaped. Ollie Byrne's a complete criminal boor. He's going to be the ruin of that club and it's going to be quite funny watching him do a runner with all the cash in the coming months. I might put him on my Deathlist, actually... Those odds are indeed mental, especially the Setanta ones.
Boca Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 It will be great fun watching Shels this year. Relegation would be nice. How did they manage to pass all these stringent requirements in order to compete in the Premier league?
betterman Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Wexford are entering a representative team for the first time this year and holding trials soon. It will be an amateur side made up of local talent. Entering the league with just about the best facilities in it though, once the new stand is finished. Pat Dolan is going to manage for his old mate Mick Wallace, who has pumped ?2m into the grounds already. The stringent requirements are more like guidlines to be ignored though, you'd have no clubs left if they were enforced as most of them are run in the most ridiculous manner possible.
Coyler Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 How did they manage to pass all these stringent requirements in order to compete in the Premier league?I'm not sure but at the very least we can be fully confident that all was above board and that the rules concerning winding-up orders, obesity and criminality of dodgy owners, financial shambolicry, poxy fans, etc., were applied to Shelbourne FC with as much fairness, strict integrity and honesty as the rules concerning 'replays against Bohemian FC in the event that it looks like the title might go down to the wire and Shelbourne might need a few extra points' were.

Is that for real? Haven't heard anything about that, I assume they're taking Dublin City's spot?
betterman Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Is that for real? Haven't heard anything about that, I assume they're taking Dublin City's spot? Yeah, it will happen all right. Trials are already arranged, they could get quite a decent team I'd imagine. Will be well run anyway, I'll guarantee you that. http://www.unison.ie/irish_independent/sto...;issue_id=14967
Maldini Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 (edited) There goes Cork City's great youth system anyway Heaven forbid, you might end up having to spend your nights watching Eircom league football now Edited January 4, 2007 by Maldini

I reckon that Dundalk steward is stocking up on petrol for a renewed assault as we speak.
aka Dus Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 There goes Cork City's great youth system anyway Heaven forbid, you might end up having to spend your nights watching Eircom league football now Wexford Youths Abú! I will soon be able to say I played for a team which plays Eircom League football.
betterman Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Wexford Youths Abú! I will soon be able to say I played for a team which plays Eircom League football. Every young lad's dream! I wonder how many GAA players will be encouraged to defect, there's on high profile one in the works already... Wallace also said Dolan turned down Bohs ans Shels to manage Wexford Youths. On an unrelated note, isn't it funny how much interets the Scottish clubs are paying to the young Irish lads now? I reckon ten per cent of the league's attendance (bout 15 a week?!) is made up of Jocks on scouting missions!

Yeah, loads of Championship clubs too, it seems like everyone's afraid of missing out on the next Kevin Doyle, there's gold in dem der hills.

No, not Mahhie.. though every time I hear that (in that particular form) it reminds me of a seedy night in Liverpool.. so thanks! Yeah, Doyle has made them take temporary notice of what's going on, but he was a stand out over here and even at international level underage. Think another reason is that there's f*** all difference between the best scottish and Irish teams anymore, bar the two obvious exceptions.

I can't remember the connection to Mahhie, but I think I remember the night in question Yeah, there's not much difference at all between the likes of Dundee United and the better teams in the Eircom League, the Eircom League teams are probably better truth be told.
jfogarty Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 Right lads heres your last chance at making it into the big time From Unison/Wexford People Any players interested in trialling for the Wexford Youths F.C. with a view to playing in the League of Ireland are asked to phone Mick Wallace on 087-2454510 or text. The first trial will take place at 1.00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, at Newcastle, Head Coach, Pat Dolan, will also be in attendance. The dialing code is +353 for any overseas folk interested
betterman Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 From today's Indo. I reckon we should be credited here somewhere for providing all the info! Dolan primed for return with WexfordADVERTISEMENT PAT DOLAN is set for a return to Eircom League football with the newly formed Wexford Youths FC, if they succeed in gaining a licence to play in next season's First Division. The charismatic former St Patrick's Athletic and Cork City manager, who is now working as a television analyst with Setanta Sports, is expected to assume the role of part-time head coach with the new club. Construction millionaire Mick Wallace, who is a close friend of Dolan's, is behind the venture to bring Eircom League football to the Model County. Wallace, who is a massive supporter of youth football in the South East, will learn at the end of this month if the facilities and infrastructure at his site just outside Wexford town are adequate enough to gain a First Division licence. Open trials are being staged in Wexford this Saturday for those players wishing to impress the prospective coaching staff and gain a place in the new setup. Meanwhile, Gary O'Neill became the latest player to leave troubled Shelbourne when he joined St Patrick's Athletic yesterday. And the Saints are hoping that Dave Rogers will join him and another former team-mate, Joseph Ndo, at Richmond Park for the new campaign. O'Neill, who was out of contract with Shels, is a key capture for Saints manager John McDonnell, who is looking to fill the void left by the departures of Trevor Molloy and Paul Keegan to Motherwell. Rogers will go before a tribunal to argue that he is a free agent and therefore entitled to leave Shels after alleged non-payment of wages. Daniel McDonnell
Coyler Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I have to admit to having a soft spot for Pat Dolan.
ExCorkExile Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Have to like Dolan - did a good job of managing Pats and City. Really enthusiastic about Irish football and his teams played good positive stuff as well Still refers to Cork City as 'we' when doing any commentary on Setanta Sports - have to admire that

jfogarty Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Shelbourne had to withdraw from the Setanta Cup today and St.Pats take their place Theres not a single player, manager or coach at the club and tomorrow is transfer deadline day. The writings on the wall

The writings on the wall I read today that they are £10m in debt. Can't say I 'm a fan of Shels, but I hope they don't go bust.
jfogarty Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 I read today that they are £10m in debt. Can't say I 'm a fan of Shels, but I hope they don't go bust. In 2002 they fought tooth and nail with the FAI to make sure Pats got a 15 point deduction which cost the club the title (even though the players got the medals) and champions league football. The following year Pats nearly went bust and are only now getting things back together. What goes around comes around is happening here as not only are Pats after taking their 2 best players and Setanta Cup place its very likely we'll get European football too I dont want them to go bust but I want them to suffer for what they have done. I read today that the FAI are reinspecting their license application as they obviously lied in November. Waterford will take their place if they're relegated
