RP Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 (edited) Don't know if it's been on the radio, but he is supposed to be leaving. Edited January 1, 2007 by RP
Maldini Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 There's been talk of it for a while, rumours of him going back to America with Elias to replace him. What did TalkSport say?
lawrie Posted January 1, 2007 Author Posted January 1, 2007 Only caught the end. Something about Lucas Neill and then mentioned that Steve was leaving. Dont know if it they were confirming it or just speculating
Magic8Ball Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 There's been talk of it for a while, rumours of him going back to America with Elias to replace him. What did TalkSport say?Going back to america ? he's not american Elias ???? ( isnt that a tv show ? )
Chili Palmer Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Would it be a great loss? Our academy isn't exactly turning out superstars.
Guest Sabre Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Going back to america ? he's not american Elias ???? ( isnt that a tv show ? ) Malcolm Elias, Einstein.
Benitez Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Would it be a great loss? Our academy isn't exactly turning out superstars. I doubt very much it'd be a great loss. And is he leaving, or being pushed out? I dunno. Mind you Robbie Fowler won't be impressed, he was big upping Heighway in his autobiog, or was that just a way to get another dig in at Ged?
richt71 Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Malcolm Elias, Einstein. While Stevie raves about heighway in his book.. but heighway seems to want to do things his own way and didn't get on with ged or it appears at times with Rafa. I am of the thinking that Rafa should have overall imput into the academy. Seems daft that heighway does his thing then if good enough they come and do different things at melwood.
floyd Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 What did TalkSport say?Roooooooooooooooooonnnnneeeeeeyyyyyyyyy, what re your'e thoughts on him, ring in (at £1.50 per/min , you fools)
Guest Cameron Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 He's helped develop some brilliant footballers for us, Macca, Fowler, Carra, Owen, Gerrard etc. so he hasn't done a terrible job. But recently there hasn't been any special youngsters coming through, and given the resources he has at his disposal, we should have some talented kids pushing for a first team place.
chrisbonnie Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 He's helped develop some brilliant footballers for us, Macca, Fowler, Carra, Owen, Gerrard etc. so he hasn't done a terrible job. But recently there hasn't been any special youngsters coming through, and given the resources he has at his disposal, we should have some talented kids pushing for a first team place. a gerbil could have developed them players, they where just extremly talented, apart from them obvious players, our tunrout of youngsters is quite poor, and the book has to stop with someone didnt someone on here say they knew some lad that was gonna sign for us, only a young lad mind, and his parents thought Heighway was nothing but a prick, with that, he didnt commit the academy has to be run in more conjunction with melwood, its common sense
Elisha_Scott Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 didnt someone on here say they knew some lad that was gonna sign for us, only a young lad mind, and his parents thought Heighway was nothing but a prick, with that, he didnt commit One kids mum and dad didn't like him? So what? He is meant to be great with the young lads.
Paul B Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 He's also self-employed and therefore nothing to do with Liverpool Football Club at all. I know his family have strong associations with a football club in America and he's had many requests to join as manager and this is maybe why he's decided to go.
Leroy Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 One kids mum and dad didn't like him? So what? He is meant to be great with the young lads. No he`s not, he`s not liked by a lot of the youngsters.
dorgie Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 No he`s not, he`s not liked by a lot of the youngsters. You don't have to be liked by the players to be a good coach. He must be doing something right to be in that position for such a long period of time. FA Youth Cup winners 2006........remind me again who that was ??????
oakie bob Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 it was in the echo how liverpool schools had to beg heighway to release some of the players to play for them in FA Schools cup, doesnt Rafa want kids to have more competive games than just playing for the U16's and the U18's which Heighway wont allow them to do
Paul B Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 You don't win anything with kids. Our under 12s did last season. They won their league. And the cup.
Red Lecter Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Wasn't there talk of us opening an academy in the states and Heighway giong over to run that?
Bootle Buck Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 He could have been a great coach if it wasn't for those meddling kids.
fyds Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 You don't have to be liked by the players to be a good coach. He must be doing something right to be in that position for such a long period of time. FA Youth Cup winners 2006........remind me again who that was ??????Much of that team, Roque, Barragan, Antwe, Hobbs, Anderson etc did not come through the academy and were Rafa buys.
Rimbeux Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 From where I see it, this long running tension is a result of the 'new' academy regs about how far from the club the lads are supposed to come from, regs that certain other clubs get around regularly. Steve has always been determined to keep it local, which I'm sure aint Rafa's and wasn't Gerard's ideal plan.
