Spike Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Our support, our support, our support is f***ing s*** Was in the upper Anny (227) today and the atmosphere was awful apart from me and the fella next to and a few a couple of blocks to the right. I'm f***ing fuming right now and in my head of steam I'm honestly thinking of not going as often and that the £100 quid on tickets, travel and ale etc per match would be more useful elsewhere I'm sick of going to matches and basically sitting amongst folks who are there to either watch or observe the a match / the team rather than support them. I'm sick of the fact that people are drawn to our club because of the legend of the Kop and as such people go to experience it not participate. I'm sick of the g******* c**** who find the breath to have a go at a player and not to sing their name or applaud. I'm sick of how quick we are to vocalise opinions on forums like these yet slow to vocalise at the game. It's not hard, I don't expect liverbird, scouser tommy to be known chapter and verse but for f***s sake you are in LIVERPOOL, YOU'VE BOUGHT A TICKET TO WATCH LIVERPOOL SO AT LEAST JOIN IN THE CHANTS SAYING 'LIVERPOOL' It's as simple as this. Come the takeover one of our saving graces will be that we are a club that has been built upon support and that our support is as much of the legend as our achievements. THe famous Kop roar, those european nights etc. Our support, our belief, for managers, the team, and often for our fans in need of justice and vindication, is what separates us. When we have our millions all that will separate us and our achievements from the likes of Chelsea will be us. By the same token, if I was a virgin matchgoer and went to a game like today I'd be disappointed to say the least - of course that doesn't matter when we have our millions and we can all become championship manager type pundits does it? Yes it f***ing well does. When I have a son and talk about Roma, Olympiakos, Istanbul etc I want him to see it for himself. I fear that he won't. The Kop and our support, YNWA will be long dead, and we'll simply be another team. Preston, Blackpool etc Shall we lie with them so easily and quietly?
R A Softlad Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 My son, at less than two years old is already starting to appreciate it, as you can see from my avatar - a pic that was totally unscripted. He loves the footy and I can't wait for him to sample it himself. My first game was that night against St Etienne and it was great, I was hooked. I can only hope his first is as good.
Spike Posted December 23, 2006 Author Posted December 23, 2006 mate if it carries on like it is I hope he just gets a chance to see it and not be underwhelmed. The fact that we need RTK is a sad indictment on how things have got
dorgie Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 My first game was that night against St Etienne and it was great, I was hooked. Wow.......what a baptism. Probably the greatest night ever at Anfield and you picked it (or somebody else did for you ) for your first game.
Gunga Din Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 the problem is though, for games like this it was always s***. this myth that the old Kop was always making loads of noise doesnt help. my first game at Anfield was against Stoke, in the early 1980's, ant the atmosphere was s****, no singing, nothing. todays game being awful didnt help either, the crowd respond to good football, and there was precious little of that today

madaboutlfc Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 it was cold and we were playing a s*** team
Chili Palmer Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Its what you feel about the club that matters, is what you get out of going to the matches, spend less time looking around you to see who else is singing and just enjoy it. I have never been to a liverpool match and came out saying that was s***, I have always come out thinking I have added my tiny little bit to the history of the club I love. Not every game is going to be like Istanbul, but every game is a chance for thousands to see their team in the flesh. Let them enjoy it!
Sion Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I'm sick of the g******* I'm Confused as to what swear word that could be

My first game was Derby about ten years ago or so and it was s***. My point is that we are the difference and we are becoming less so. That our achievements under DIC will be plasticised and why should we need RTK if things are not as bad as they have been? People more willing to phone and wave to their mates another stand, take pictures of stuff (FFS you'll get better footage on MOTD so why otherwise than to prove to your mates that you've been to a game)
Guest Sabre Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I'm Confused as to what swear word that could be gob-s****s?

Sion Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 gob-s****s? g******* That's probably the one! little old innocent me
IgPig Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 today was as poor as its been this season, but it was f'ing freezing which didn't help. Also with it being 2 days before Xmas I think there were plenty more day trippers. I don't often sit in the main stand, but what is it about that area that breeds moaning a******s? Is it the better leg room? I had at least 6 g*******s commentating on the match like it was some sunday league game and bitching and moaning at every f***ing thing. I am 6ft 4" and appreciate the leg room but I'd rather be cut in half in a seat where people don't think paying the £32 gives you carte blanche to trash the people that gave you some of the best memories of your life.
Euphrates Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I was at the Fulham game with a stag over for the weekend from Ireland and I was proud to say that most of the 14 got caught up in the match. We were lucky enough to be in the first few rows of the Kop and even the lads who didn't support Liverpool and one lad who doesn't care about football joined in the singing for the most part. We had a laugh with Dirk's Kuyt biggest fan who gave out free coffees to the first few rows of the Kop and the young lad next to us who kept yelling "Shankly!" whenever the Kop sang for Rafa. From everything I've read on here, our trip seems to be the exception to the rule but I hope that as I get older I'll have more chances to get across (I've even considered moving over after I finish my degree).

Not every game is going to be like Istanbul, but every game is a chance for thousands to see their team in the flesh. Let them enjoy it! This is the real point, and is why I don't moan about the fans singing or not singing. I sing non-stop practically and so does Katja - we go to support the team as Spike says and don't give a monkey's what anyone else is doing, not doing or thinks. In our enthusiasm we've even started a few choruses. I was at the St Etienne game too - lower paddock as was, to the right of the dugout. Fantastic night. Re Spikes searing - I thought it rhymed with 'dormless bunts' I was at the Fulham game with a stag over for the weekend from Ireland and I was proud to say that most of the 14 got caught up in the match. The front of the Kop is always a blast - different parts of the ground are just that - very different. When I was a kid, there were parts of the ground that were 'no go' as they would be full of maoning a-holes - the middle and top left hand of the old Kemlyn being one of note. Now you get whole secttions of what has become the 'Moan stand'. Where you get to sit can make a hell of a difference.
R A Softlad Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 I was at the St Etienne game too - lower paddock as was, to the right of the dugout. Fantastic night. Kemlyn road just on the kop side of the half way line, two thirds of the way back.
fyds Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Kemlyn road just on the kop side of the half way line, two thirds of the way back. So almost directly opposite then, if just a bit higher up! I should have spotted the orange glow...though Fairclough may have distracted me

JRC Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 I've just started taking ky lad awayy, and that's a tonic, as he is getting fed up with the ridiculous moaning g******** (sic) in the Main Stand - I could be near our 6'4'' friend above from his description, but sadly we could be in entirely different parts of the MS - it has become a real rancorous pit, I'm afraid. St Etienne? In the Kop, but no location clearly defined to within about 50 yards.
guernseygareth Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 never ever been to anfield, won't bore you with the excuses, so i'm afraid that when i do get to Makkah i'll be caught like an OOT'er in headlights. going back to spike's point though, i will sing and support the team. what's the point otherwise? wherever i've been in UK i've been to watch the footie if possible - how anyone who likes the game can't get caught up in the passion is beyond me. at the same time i can't understand why a non fan would go to the game. though i did go and see a college game of american handball, our small group of brits gave it the whole 'wooooooh bullpoo ha' at kick off which saw us get the look of horror from everyone within hearing distance. strange days.
Dan Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Absolute b*llocks I'm afraid, to say you should be expected to sing at the game. I do sing, but doesn't make you less of a fan if you don't. You sound self righteous.
Guest Scot Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 I don't sing the whole game, though I do sing. Normally I'm pretty engrossed in watching the football and am as likely to make various shout/scream/grunt noises as sing. I can't abide the people who won't or don't sing YNWA the beginning or - worst of all - tell you to hush when you're singing.

I do sing, but doesn't make you less of a fan if you don't. You sound self righteous. now go back and read the original point and try to understand what he is saying ffs
