jimmylibel Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Ronaldinho is set to receive Spanish citizenship early in the New Year. Spanish clubs are only allowed three non-EU players in their squads according to La Liga rules. At the start of this season Barca were up to their quota - with Ronaldinho, Rafael Marquez and Samuel Eto'o. However, Marquez obtained EU status last month and now with Ronaldinho set to - Eto'o will be left as the only non-European in their squad. This opens up a number of new opportunities to coach Frank Rijkaard - one of which is to promote highly-rated Mexican youth star Giovani Dos Santos from their youth ranks. Link Surprised Eto'o hasn't got one yet, he's been in Spain for ages.
Tosh Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 That's good, as when Rafa buys him we won't have to get a work permit.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 both marquez and eto'o have been in spain longer than goofy. weird.
growler Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 I believe messi has already. I think eto'o would have to give up his national passport, and that may be why he doesn't want one. contrary to popular belief, not every one wants an EU passport.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 contrary to popular belief, not every one wants an EU passport. It's good for your career to have one. It's a very logical move if you can.

Don't think you have to give up your home passport at all.

If true then he might be proud to be Cameroonian and not want to give up his passport. It's good for your career to have one. It's a very logical move if you can. Eto'o hasn't really lost out by not having one. Maybe if your an average player it will help but a club will sign a quality player regardless.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 riquelme might have been a barca player now with one. I am sure it helped deco signing for barca that he had one too.
Nebraska Red Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 actually, he needs Spanish Citizenship to qualify for Barca's dental plan.
muleskinner Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 riquelme might have been a barca player now with one. I am sure it helped deco signing for barca that he had one too. Performing better on the pitch would have been more help for Riquelme staying at Barcelona.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 he was perhaps the best player in the league the season he was on loan. then they sold him.
galés rojo Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 he was perhaps the best player in the league the season he was on loan. then they sold him. Riquelme hasn't got the mentality to be truley world class and is better suited to having a whole team constructed around him.
Jimi Rojo Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 riquelme might have been a barca player now with one. I am sure it helped deco signing for barca that he had one too. Isn't Deco portuguese????
Guest Anders Honoré Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 he was brazilian before he switched to portugal.
