Gilps Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Moyes and Mourinho have a barny about diving players Jose Mourinho's unrivalled ability to fall out with opposition managers resurfaced yesterday in a row with David Moyes about whether Andrew Johnson had dived to try to win a penalty during Chelsea's 3-2 win at Everton. The two managers had a heated exchange on the touchline and the hostilities continued after a game that could have a significant impact on the title race. Mourinho had been incensed by a first-half incident when Johnson hurtled into the penalty area and went down at full speed between the challenge of the Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz and the goalkeeper Hilario. Furiously gesticulating that a yellow card should be shown, Mourinho had to be restrained by the fourth official, Russell Booth. Mourinho then suggested Johnson was a serial diver who was "dangerous" to opponents because of the way he "chased penalties". His criticisms drew a withering response from Moyes, who seemed to suggest to Mourinho on the touchline that he should wear spectacles. Moyes insisted that Johnson had done nothing wrong and he accused Mourinho of double standards, pointing out that, in Didier Drogba, "he had a big, powerful, 15st striker who was quite partial to it [diving] himself."Moyes also cited the incident when Reading's Stephen Hunt had collided with Petr Cech when Chelsea played at the Madejski Stadium. "There was a big complaint [from Chelsea] back then because a player had gone into their goalkeeper," he said. "Our player jumped over the goalkeeper, he fell down, got straight back up and didn't appeal. Now make your mind up. Is he supposed to jump in on the goalkeeper when, a few weeks ago, that was what people were complaining about? I don't think it was a penalty - but it certainly wasn't a dive." It is not the first time Moyes has had to defend Johnson from diving allegations, but an unapologetic Mourinho insisted he had a right to be aggrieved. "In Portugal, our culture is to call someone like that an 'intelligent' player," he said. "In your culture, you use other words and you are very critical. This is my third year in England and I have been influenced by my new culture. He is the kind of player who I would now call dangerous because you cannot trust him." Mourinho's complaints were so forcibly made on the touchline it is possible the Football Association will look into his behaviour. A policeman felt it necessary to lecture the Chelsea assistant manager, Steve Clarke and the authorities are unlikely to be impressed with Mourinho's waving of an imaginary yellow card at a time when they are urging referees to book players who act in such a manner.
CarraLegend Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 f*** off Moyes and f*** off Mourinho. Johnson, that yard dog kid they put upfront yesterday, Drogba, Robben, Ballack etc etc etc all cheating t***s.
Coyler Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Ha. Probably the first time in his career that Johnson didn't dive in that situation. It worked like a charm, though. A few minutes later Carvalho executed a decent but really heavy challenge on him in the box that Johnson would have definitely gone to ground for otherwise to see what would happen. Carvalho cleared the ball with his first leg but fairly hacked him with his trailing leg. Johnson was rooted upright.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 carvalho is wickedly good at being brutally snide and getting away with it though.

alext Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I believe he did dive and the bald midget does do it a lot. Mourinho is a c*** however because he actively trains his players to do it.

Benitez Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Christ, the bitters are going a bit overboard arent they? http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/1549...-statement.html "To publicly question the integrity of a player of Andrew's professionalism and honesty is not only wholly unacceptable and quite possibly defamatory but also, in our opinion, highly damaging for both Club and player. We would urge the footballing authorities to look closely at Mr Mourinho's comments and then, perhaps, seek a formal explanation."
ManxRed Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I'm laughing almost as much now at the fallout, as I did yesterday when Mourinho said it. I actually am at a loss to explain how Mourinho actually keeps a straight face while he says all this stuff. Its quite brilliant really. You can see he knows how many people he's winding up, and he doesn't even break a smile. Genius!

Its Everton's reaction that is hysterical, not Maurenho's typically stupid behaviour in the first place.

ManxRed Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Its Everton's reaction that is hysterical, not Maurenho's typically stupid behaviour in the first place. I agree, the reaction is hysterical, but Mourinho saying it deadpan in the first place was also hilarious. He was doing it deliberately for a wind up, he couldn't possibly BE that stupid...
Bootle Buck Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Considering Mourinho's Porto side could well have represented Portugal in the Olympic Diving event and that he has molded the likes of Drogba, Robben, SWP into the most pathetic theatrical fakers we have ever seen, he has some nerve criticising anyone. Then again getting more publicity and to wind another team up is acheiving what he truly loves.
floyd Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Considering Mourinho's Porto side could well have represented Portugal in the Olympic Diving event UEFA Cup final against Celtic was an education, in how an opposing team can take brinkmanship to a level, never seen before or after.
Guest Cameron Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Mourinho certainly ha a cheek to accuse others of diving. Hypocritical t***. Although he's not wrong about 'AJ', the guy is a serial diver and he's been doing it for years. Even when he was a kid at Birmingham he was falling all over the place looking for penalties (witness our 2001 League Cup final vs Brum).
R A Softlad Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Jose Mourinho... hypocrit. BBC Everton want Mourinho retraction Everton have called for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to retract his comments about striker Andrew Johnson. Mourinho branded the England striker "untrustworthy" following a challenge with Chelsea keeper Hilario in the champions' win at Goodison Park. An Everton statement said: "To publicly question a player of Andrew's integrity and honesty is wholly unacceptable. "It's quite possibly defamatory and we ask Mr Mourinho to immediately retract his allegations." The joint statement from Everton and Johnson's agent Anthony McFarlane, also called on the Football Association to look at Mourinho's comments. It said: "We would urge the footballing authorities to look closely at Mr Mourinho's comment and then, perhaps, seek a formal explanation. "Both Everton FC and Andrew Johnson have always believed in the virtues of fair play." Johnson's tumble in the box under Chelsea keeper Hilario's challenge sparked a touchline row between Mourinho and Everton counterpart David Moyes after the Chelsea boss made a diving motion with his hands. Mourinho said: "He's dangerous for opponents because you cannot trust him, and I was not happy with that. "But I think he was a bit embarrassed and he behaved very well after that." The Chelsea boss stopped short of calling Johnson a cheat, but said: "In my country we call them 'intelligent' players. In other countries you can use different words and are critical. "I've been in this country for three years now and I am influenced by your culture. It is a country I admire, I am proud to be part of it. "For me when a player chases a penalty, he is no longer an intelligent player." Everton boss Moyes dismissed Mourinho's insinuations of Johnson's diving and accused him of hypocrisy. "After all, he's got a big 15 stone striker up front who is quite partial to it himself. "I saw the incident on television and I don't think it was a penalty, but it certainly wasn't a dive either. "A few weeks ago the Chelsea keeper got caught by a Reading player who was criticised for that. "Our player is slightly bumped, straddles the goalkeeper and jumps over him. He's missed the keeper and he gets criticised for that, so you can't win." A Football Association spokesman said: "We are aware of what's been said but have no comment to make at this stage."
Boca Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Mourinho is the biggest c*** in English football. Considering the amount of c**** in the game that makes him pretty f***ing special alright.
Bootle Buck Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 What makes him more dispicable is the fact that the c*** has rarely ever lost in his managerial career yet he still can't stop complaining. Could you imagine what he would be like if he managed a mediocre team.
McBain Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 They're all coming out of it looking like Tw ats Which is nice
Benzo-13 Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I'm glad Jose had a go at Johnson.. He's a despicable blight on the game - the Nemo C**t.. Like the illiterate at the Filth.
Scally the Wag Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Johnson didn't dive (that time), and Moyes behaved rather well I thought. He clearly asked Mourinho to look at the monitor right beside the dug outs and Jose clearly acted like a spoilt child refusing to turn his head even half an inch. I'd have given him serious lip If I'd been Moyes.
