Tim Lovejoy "You've played with so many top strikers in your time, who was the besy or your favourite partner?"

Michael Owen's reply and the first name he said was Emile Heskey.

:)

to be fair, there isn't much choice is there! He was never gonna say Fowler :D And he didn't play enough at Real. And as for Newcastle.......

Have we not established that Owen's got crap judgment?

Posted

Not to mention the fact that other strikers he has played with generally didn't become his personal bitch...

:D

There's a difference between 'best' and 'favourite'.

I can understand the 'favourite' being Heskey - see deathscar's comment.

But, imho, his best is still Riedle.

What's the competition? Owen is a lone gun.

I'm amazed he didn't say shearer just to suck up to the Geordies. They were an awful partnership for England.

Collymore, Fowler, Owen, Reidle, Heskey, Raul, Ronaldo, Shearer.

Also if you ever ask Tony Cottee or Steve Claridge who was their favourite partner, they've both gone on record and said Emile.

If he was a true Liverpool fan, he would of just stood up, and launched his size 5 and a halves into Alan "fvckin" Davies's knackers.

Yeah he played with all of them. He had a partnership with none of them.

I'm not surprised he - or anyone - would say that about Heskey. At his best he's strong, bullish, unselfish. At his worst he's weak-willed, cowardly and unselfish. Either way it suits the truly selfish predators that all great goalscorers are. They like a sidekick, not competition.

Don't spoil it for the big weak lummox

At his best (his first 18 mnths with us) Hesky was almost unstoppable, and if you'd asked most fans -or Houllier- at the time then the only argument was whether Owen or Fowler partnered him.

I find it a little depressing to read so many threads on here that are so eager to have a pop at ex-players of ours.

Both yours and Scot's assessment of the lad are spot on. Emile's problem has never been the amount of talent in his boots, it's the confidence and belief he's always lacked. He could have been one of the great all time strikers had he had half the mental strength Owen, Rooney and others posess. Top top top top bloke as well.

owens two best goals were the england one against argentina and the FA Cup final goal for us.

as for strike partner, of course it would be heskey. which other striker would play with him, totally to support him?

At his best, yes.

Heskey's problem was always a lack of self-awareness - he never seemed to realise how good a footballer he actually is/was.

Agree with that. His problem was in his head.
