for investment

i've held back on the thought of us ever selling the soul of our club , but surely now is the time for investment , i think we are going backwards in all honesty

i don't buy the fact this season is a disaster , i'll only say that in may if we have'nt won anything and finish 5th or worse , there are still 3 cups to win , stranger things have happened , 2005 and 2006 and all that

but i honestly don't think moores can take us any further , and thats heartbreaking , because he loves liverpool

summer was going to be the most defining in years but it's all gone t*** up , a club like ours should not be out the title race in october!!

SO INVESTMENT OR NOT???

Its a sad fact of life with the way the game is going, we cant be shopping at budget levels anymore if we want to compete.

Rafa clearly wanted Alves this year but we could get the extra few millions that descision now looks so bad given what we brought in instead.

its time the manager was able to buy his #1 targets and we can judge him on that.

We also need a bigger stadium you cant have 30,000 less fans than a team like Man Utd every home game and expect to compete on a level playing field.

sad fact is, the season being over in October is nowt to do with what Moores did or did not do this summer, more to do with what happened ON the pitches at Old Trafford, The Emirates, Woodison....

The results SHOULD have been better, Alves or no!

Well said.

I think we can be a great cup team as it's one game at a time and we always seem mentally right for a one off knockout game.

I think if we really want to be up their come may then we're going to have to sell a little bit of our soul. This is a sad state to be in but that's modern football I guess.

Our squad is good enough to be challenging for the title. Throwing more money at the team wont necessarily solve anything.

Much as i'd love it to happen, I dont think investment will be a miracle cure

Of course with the players we have the results and performances should be better, but when you buy your 2nd or 3rd choices sometimes thats the risk your taking. Top players are top players because they perform to a high level most of the time although even the great players have bad days. When you take risks on players like Pennant or Bellamy their performance levels will be inconsistent, unfortuneately for us this has also been true for the players we take for granted like Stevie, Alonso, Carra.

We need to buy players that will slip straight into the first team, but again there are no guarantees as chelsea are finding with a 30 million pound player.

Ballack.

As in explain his form to me then. Or Schevchenko

My point is that league form is driven ON th3e pitch, not off it. If we are THAT poor from Moore's down, can you explain our Champs League form?

Agreed.

Last year we were the best team in the league from November on and we finished the season on an 11 game winning streak. Our squad is stronger this year, I think everyone would have agreed that before the season started.

Why we haven't picked up where we left off from last season has been down to the form of players on the pitch.

investment doesn't bring team spirit, which is the thing we lack most at the moment. most people thought we had a side that could put up a fight for the title this year - player for player are we worse than man u? i don't think so - but they have more fight about them than we do. i don't know what has happened since the close of last season, but the spirit displayed for large chunks of last year has gone - it's not about not spending 300m on one player, it's about the players we have showing 100% every game, then the team being greater than the sum of it's parts.

I think i did explain this, top players are top players because they can perform to a very high level consistently, now of course players arent machines and even great players play badly thats part of our problem this season, our consistent performers havent performed consistently this season and thats had a knock on effect.

As for our CL form its clear some of our players are far better suited to playing in that style of football compared to the PL, Garcia and Alonso are 2 players that get a little bit more time and space in the CL and their games improve because of it.

I agree that all our problems arent Moores related, a big part of it is simply our players arent performing to the levels we expect of them, however in order to sign the best players we need a bigger stadium and we need to be spending more than the 20 million or so we have the last few seasons. Signing better players doesnt guarantee anything but i think better players play badly less often.
