mofus77 Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I'm as fanatical as the rest of you and I'll still watch every game and support the team. But the seasons over. Already. We still get 4th but that's it, not good enough for europe either. Most disappointing, disheartening season in ages. Depressed
Will Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 not good enough for europe either.Yes, that has clearly been proven by our form in Europe
mofus77 Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Yes, that has clearly been proven by our form in Europe Lets be realistic here, we had an easy group, we were expected to qualify and did so. The latter stages won't be such smooth sailing.
sean Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Lets be realistic here, we had an easy group, we were expected to qualify and did so. The latter stages won't be such smooth sailing. We were expected to compete for the title also, means nothing, stop talking rubbish.

Huyton_Red Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 How can the season be over if we are in the Quarter final of the worthington cup and knock out stages of the champions league and have not even played in the FA cup yet and its still November F'ckin loony
sutty Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 It was not an easy group - all 3 opponents are good European sides Bordeaux? I know what you mean like but PSV and us were always favourite to go through. That said I don't think we should down play what we've done in Europe. We've dealt with that group.

Depressed gotta agree mate.. as much as I love the team... the feeling of disappointment at the moment is hard to take.. one thing being out of the title race in January or February, but October is way too early... We had no injury problems at the time either so there are no excuses.. just hope we get number 6 in May. Edited November 30, 2006 by Barnesy_10
mofus77 Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 I was trying to get across my sense of disappointment on the league campaign. At the start of the season I had high hopes, like most of us, which are all but lost now. I wanted to be challenging for the league, we're not, I'm gutted. I can't see any improvement in our play, or any indication that we can go on a great run, so as far as I'm concerned we will limp into 4th/3rd place which in my head isn't good enough. I didn't comment on the domestic cups as that wasn'twhat I was getting at. Can you honestly tell me that your not disappointed ?

Agree with most of this.
mofus77 Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Different statement from season over that one. Agree with most of this. Yeah, should maybe have made it a bit clearer but too gutted to care about the domestic cups (at the minute).
Digger Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Yeah, should maybe have made it a bit clearer but too gutted to care about the domestic cups (at the minute). I remember Rafa saying after his first season that we would never be so far behind the leaders again.16 points is disgraceful considering the expectations we and the club had.Weve scored the least amount of away goals in the whole league and conference, ie more than 100 clubs, and even that one was a dodgy penalty.

I will not criticise Rafa, I think he's our one great hope but something needs to be done. I think our season is over because we had big players off form at the start, this along with some poor luck (hitting woodwork every week) led to a run of bad results which totally ruined the confidence of the players. Don't think this has ever recovered. How many away games have we watched our team just roll over and lose ?, it's sickening.

You don't support a club to be happy/pleased/excited. You just support them - end of story. I don't know if you were around in the Shankly era. If you weren't then I don't know how you would have coped with the entirely trophy-free 7 year period between out league championships in 1966 and 1973, with only a failed cup final in 1971 to lighten the gloom. We didn't whinge about being disappointed - we got behind the team

So I don't need you preaching to me on how to do it. I annoyed about how poor our team is currently, with no sign of improvement. I don't see anything wrong with stating that, more to the point I haven't singled out the manager or specific players. There's no knee jerk reaction here, this is coming after 3 months of this mediocrity.
Guest sandbee Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Gotta agree with the levels of sadness, emptiness and total frustration. Think it`s because of the high hopes everyone associated with the club had back at the start of the league. One has to wonder what has happened... "Spirit of Istanbul", agressive defensive play resembling the wolf-pack, playing at the teams strengths, the self-belief, and the will to fight. All these things are virtually gone, the team is unrecognisable from just half a year ago! Everyone must take the flak, Rafa, the players, the "suits", the fans even. New investment will not solve everything, but it WILL mean a new beginning for the club, and I for one think that we desperately need a boost like that. Just so fed up with disappointing league performances, the saddest part is that I can`t even get to enjoy the fact that we qualified from the CL-group again. The league was the absolute, undisputable #1 priority this year, and look at the shambles that we are in. It`s all very hard to take.

I've been patient and continue to support the team and players, I don't see my reactions as knee jerk in the slightest, I'm not calling for anyones head and there's plently of targets out there. How long does it have to go on before we're allowed to mention that the team is week on week putting out embarressing performances?, in a Liverpool forum designed for airing ours views ? 3 months obviously isn't long enough, maybe 6 months ?, a year ?, 2 years ? tell me when to stop......

Just last season, even when playing badly we closed teams down, hustled and harried and generally worked our b******s off every single game. This year that fighting spirit and team ethic seem to have vanished. Edited November 30, 2006 by Riise6
Ian Mc Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Unfortunately our financial resources means Rafa cannot buy the players he would like. Until the Investment is sorted we can't compete with Man U and Chelsea for the title it is plainly obvious. However our season is far from over, on our day we can beat anyone and easily win the Champions League or FA Cup again. We're all pissed off about the league but all we can do is ensure we get the 3rd or 4th place.
Figaro Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 It's a marshmellow world in the winterWhen the snow comes to cover the ground...It's a time for play.... Has more relevance than saying the season's over
fred milne Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 We still get 4th.Reckon we'll get 3rd again.

Has more relevance than saying the season's over OK then you can content yourself with your wonderfully off beat way of saying you don't agree with me, whatever floats your boat. I'm still as annoyed as before.
Bootle Buck Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 The sad part is in 2004-05 when we had a poor league season the CL run kept us all going resulting in winning a trophy we couldn't have predicted before that season began. Now we went into this season looking to challenge for the league and it is clear we have no where near the consistancy to challenge Utd and Man Utd. Unless we actually win the CL this season will be looked at as disappointing. Winning the League Cup or FA Cup isn't what it used to be. Right now the team we have will struggle to break down the top European teams in the CL and will look suspect against those teams that really come at us.
mofus77 Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Reckon we'll get 3rd again. We might yeah but it doesn't really matter does it ?
