Folks on the Radio this morning were talking about Morinho and saying he has run out of patience with Shevchenko and is intending on tabling a £25m bid for David Villa in the January transfer window, with a return to Milan on loan the most likely destination for Sheva.

If this is the case then something needs to be done about Chelsea, this is getting completely out of hand. I read the KHR comments in the other thread and to a certain extent i agree with the sentiment. Either the G14 or FIFA/UEFA need to put a transfer cap in either numbers or money. Its f***ing insane when a club buy a player for £30m in the summer then consider loaning out to a club in January.

Villa only available to Chelsea for £100m

Spanish striker's buy-out clause must be met if clubs want to sign him

Valencia president Juan Soler today insisted that Chelsea have not made an offer for Spain striker David Villa and warned any interested clubs they will have to start negotiations at £100m.

Reports this morning had suggested that Villa is at the top of Jose Mourinho's wish-list during the January transfer window, but Soler is adamant Los Che will only let him leave if the player's buy-out clause is met.

"Officially we have not received any interest or an offer from Chelsea for Villa," said Soler. "I met [Valencia sporting director Amedeo] Carboni this morning and he didn't mention anything regarding any possible interest from Chelsea for our striker. We have heard rumours but that is all it is. We have no intention of selling him. But should any club be interested, they could sit down and negotiate his buy-out clause, which is currently worth 150million euros (£100m)."

Villa scored 25 goals in La Liga last season and was reportedly the subject of a failed £15m bid from Chelsea in the summer. The 24-year-old, who has struck five goals in 12 league appearances this campaign, is under contract at the Mestalla until June 2013. "Villa is a crucial player for us now and in the future," added Soler.

Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen is currently in Valencia with the Premiership champions' youth team, who play a friendly against their counterparts tomorrow.

Yet people are hoping some billionaire buys us out. Can't have it both ways. Liverpool supporters are bad hypocrites.

Yes they are.

Makes me feel sick that some of our fans want our great club to approach football in this way

Do I want us to win the league? Certainly!

Do I want us to buy and then win an entirely undeserved league? No way.

I am undecided about the whole takeover thing, but if Abromovich stays in the charge at Stamford bridge then we will need some form of sugar daddy to keep up with their signings. Im sure Rafa would not be interested in every player who scores over 10 goals a season in any decent league as morinho seems to be, as IMO he is a vastly superior manager, but if we need to get key targets then we will have to spend big. Chelsea reinflated a market that was starting to calm down, now its gone insane again with Morinho spending as much as he likes, and in some cases spending money he doesnt really want to spend ala Shevchenko.

The game we all love could well be in serious trouble in its current format unless FIFA/UEFA intervene. In its current state only members of the G14 compete in their domestic leagues and in europe every season (with the exception of chelsea). You could almost conclusively say that a Nottingham Forrest or an Aston Villa or a Red Star Belgrade (or whatever they are called now) will not win a european cup as the talent is too concentrated. This can only be to the detriment of football.

It's sad,but what else do you propose?

Not much that can be done. UEFA and FIFA have said they are against the development but other than assuring that someone cannot own two clubs in one its competitions, they cannot control who owns a club. Thats up to national governments and the EU unfortunately.

I dont care who owns the clubs to be honest, im sure company law will look after each of the countries. But what im suggesting is that they put a cap on either the total number of transfer in to a club in each window or put a cap on the amount that can be paid for a player. Im sure there is something they can do in terms of a rule change within their game that doesnt required the intervention of individual governments.

salary caps and buy out clauses based on remaining wages of a player's contract would solve it.

I can't see the salary caps being allowed by the EU though.

they could have bought Aston Villa for less and used them as a feeder club.

Hopefully David Villa hasn't changed his mind about not wanting to play in the prem :D

I'd rather we just carry on pretty much as we are - Chelsea won't be around inthe long run. I would rather sit tight and wait for them to implode - may take a while but it'll happen eventually.

I'd like us to find about an extra 15-20 million a season. Maybe not even that much.

I'd hate to see us bought over buy someone who is just gonna give us limitless money.

We always used to break transfer records, were we wrecking the game then?

Break all the transfer records you want, all we want is a bit of accountability. The financial consequences for Chelsea are practically zero. They can carry on pissing away money and it has zero impact on their bottom line. No other club in the world can say that, if any club other than Chelsea make bad decisions (eg. 20mil for SWP, 30mil of Sheva) there would be dire consequences for the club. Will Chelsea be forced to sell players before they can buy again like many other clubs would have to do after spending 50mil on flops? I think we all know the answer to that one, Roman will pull simply pull the 100mil for Villa out his sock drawer and carry on spending.

True, but its all relative to other teams spending power. Liverpool may have broken the British transfer record, but at the same time so were Nottingham Forest, Man City, Wolves, Man Utd. Other big teams of the era.

These days, Chelsea are in a league of their own. They can spend £17 million on Duff and then sell him to Newcastle 3 years later with a £12 million loss and with no effect on their finances. In the past, clubs may have spent big, but there have always been consequences if it went wrong.

That's a fair point Roegahnn.

Personally, I'd be gutted if a billionnaire bought our club and just threw stupid money at transfers. I'd rather be mid table than that.

People says it business. Others say it's the entertainment business. Some says it's both so live with it.

I say b******s. It's football. Always has been and always will be.:notrelatedtoanyforummember4:

Just to back up what I was saying about transfer records - These are the British transfer records since 1974.

February 1974 Bob Latchford Birmingham City Everton £350,000

August 1977 Kenny Dalglish Celtic Liverpool £440,000

December 1978 David Mills Middlesbrough West Bromwich Albion £500,000

February 1979 Trevor Francis Birmingham Nottingham Forest £1m First million-pound player

September 1979 Steve Daley Wolverhampton Wanderers Manchester City £1.438m

September 1979 Andy Gray Aston Villa Wolverhampton Wanderers £1.469m

1981 Bryan Robson West Bromwich Albion Manchester United £1.5m

Summer 1987 Peter Beardsley Newcastle United Liverpool £1.9m

July 1988 Paul Gascoigne Newcastle United Tottenham Hotspur £2m

Summer 1988 Tony Cottee West Ham United Everton £2.2m

August 1989 Gary Pallister Middlesbrough Manchester United £2.3m

Summer 1991 Dean Saunders Derby County Liverpool £2.9m

July 1992 Alan Shearer Southampton Blackburn Rovers £3.6m

August 1993 Roy Keane Nottingham Forest Manchester United £3.75m

August 1993 Duncan Ferguson Dundee United Rangers £4m

July 1994 Chris Sutton Norwich City Blackburn Rovers £5m

February 1995 Andy Cole Newcastle United Manchester United £7m

July 1995 Stan Collymore Nottingham Forest Liverpool £8.5m

August 1996 Alan Shearer Blackburn Rovers Newcastle United £15m World record

November 2000 Rio Ferdinand West Ham United Leeds United £18m

22 July 2002 Rio Ferdinand Leeds United Manchester United £29.1m

Now Chelsea have spent the following (I have only selected there largest transfer fees). All of the names listed below cost more than Alan Shearer did. They have spent this money since 2003 and have managed to write off almost £60m in transfer fees on 4 unwanted players (this does not take into account their large wages, which they paid over 70% of whilst Crespo and Veron have been on loan)

Shevchenko - £30m

SWP - £21m

Essien - £24.4m

Drogba - £24m

Carvalho - £19.85m

Duff - £17m (sold for £5m)

Veron - £15m (given free transfer)

Mutu - £15.8m (sacked)

Crespo - £16.9m (on loan until contract expires)

Makelele - £16.6m

And if you look at the top 5 transfer fees in the UK, I'm pretty sure that the glams feature more than Chelsea - Ferdinand £30m, Veron £28m, Cheating Goalhanger £24m, Fatboy £27m

I don't actually have any definite figures or links to back this up, I'm just pretty sure I remember seeing it.

RVN cost £18 or £19m.

The other figures are about right. I agree with what you are saying, but there was a consequence to their spending. For every Veron, they had to spend money on a Djemba-Djemba to pad out the squad. Chelsea dont have to worry about that as Uncle Roman digs a little deeper, pulls out some spare change and buys Scott Parker or Jiri Jarosik to pad out the squad. Then sells them a year later for half the price and goes out and spends another £15m

f***ing Dean Saunders a record transfer. :(

The Devil himself Peter Kenyon was talking sh-ite about the Chavs being able to stand on their own without Abramavich's money in a few years. Maybe he meant after they have paid over the odds for every top class player in Europe and then discarded them for peanuts.
