I've heard people saying that the Mancs and Chelsea 'aren't going to lose those games' - perhaps not - but all the 'big teams' have to play each other - they ALL have to play us at home - if we can keep our home form going then we could take three points off each of them - they all have to play each other - so again we know that points will be dropped.

There are some stubborn sides that will take points away from them - whether that's 2 points for a draw or 3 points for a win - they all count

And on top of that you get flukey results which go against the books

If we can through the next month gain consistency away and bag a few points - then I think all the 'top sides' are going to have hard games coming up thick and fast

If we continue with the rotation system - like last season I have no doubts at all that we will be the strongest team in the league bar none - if it's not too late by then and we can repeat the impressive winning streak from last season at the end then a lot of pundits and media people could be in for a mighty big shock

ee, aye, addio,

we're gonna win the league.

if we're within six or seven points by january i can see us making a fist of it. they do have to come to our place and they will drop points elsewhere, but it's a question of whether they'll both drop enough. plus we need to go on one hell of a run which involves winning regularly away from home.

We need a run from now to January to get that though. It's hard to see this squad with its current injury problems and bedding in issues putting that together. We need big performances from many of a small group of players every week.

that's true. mine above is a massive 'if', of course.

one game at a time and all that, but if we can beat pompey at home on wednesday and take that into wigan away on saturday, hopefully we can break this bloody horrrible away hoodoo. wigan didn't look too clever at the back yesterday, so hopefully we'll actually have a go at them for the three points.

I think the problem is if that we win our next 15 we'd still be short of the top. Not an awful lot mind but we really need a big run from now.

The points we dropped against the a*** and middlesboro effectively ended my hopes of a challenge. Its certainly not impossible, but we do need other teams to do us favours and keep out part of deal by winning the vast majority of our games. Once rabbit in the hat is out win against villa this season, i can see other dropping points there again. We also have all out 'difficult' games out of the way, so there are a few things in our favour.

I think come May the league table will look like this:

01. Chelsea

02. Man Utd

03. Liverpool

04. Arsenal

Chelsea have strength in depth. Man Utd haven't. We'll go on a run, as will Arsenal.

We'll end up around 10 points short of the title IMO.

Kewell and Sissoko will come back in February and make a difference, especially for the next stage of the champions league and we have played all our hardest league games already.

We need to get a win at wigan this weekend desperately to stop this away thing becoming a mill stone.

Best thing for everyone at liverpool is to stop worrying about the league and just get a run of wins going

We have to rely on Manchester United and Chelsea having a huge dip in form first of all. One of them doing that is improbable, both doing it is impossible.

To answer you question - yes.

Man Utd are riding their luck if you ask me, and they WILL NOT win the league. The three big games they have played were all at home, and they lost one (Arsenal) drew one (Chelsea) and won the other (Liverpool). :( If they get a few injuries they're f***ed.

Chelsea still has the squad to go the distance (and all that f***ing bent cash of course) if you ask me, but we will be far closer to them than we are currently - of that I am sure.

Then, in May everyone will be bemoaning our start to the season.

COME ON YOU MUGHTY REDS !!! Let's keep the winning run going.

Very very unlikely.

Not only do we have to go on a great run of wins (which would have to include away wins) but both the Mancs and Chelsea would have to start dropping points all over the shop. One of them might stumble but hard to see both of them faltering.

As Redmike alluded to ; Manchester United have not got any kind of squad - their bench against the Chavs showed that and we're early into the season where injuries and suspensions and tiredness haven't really taken a hold

I think the main people that will challenge this year again will be Chelsea and they are looking jaded themselves at present

One injury and they are f'cked - Paul Scholes

The main reason they are not the shambles they where last season is his return, battered lampard yesterday, lost count of the amount of times he won the ball off him.

Cheslea will win it again, because they have the complete team/squad - Utd need centre midfielders and Liverpool need wingers before they can both have a crack at winning the league

That sounds about right to me.

I reckon we will need a top class striker who can score away from home and in the big games before we close the gap on Chelsea any further.

I'm more concerned with making 4th place

we were poor for most of Saturday, have injuries, and show no sign whatsoever that we can go on the type of run needed away from home

meanwhile Chelsea look unstoppable, have a huge squad of quality players so injuries will not stop them - whereas one or two more injuris to us and we'll look mid table

forget about the league and concentrate on investment - if we get that then it will be like winning the league. Or winning the playoff that allows you to compete for the league properly. Or something.
