and he was telling me he is falling out of love with the match going experience away from home, he said it has nothing to do the football on the pitch (and knowing him he will be telling the truth).....but he hates the atmosphere at games (or lack of it), he is baulking at paying over the odds for tickets, getting ripped off in the ground

Arsenal was the straw that broke the camels back, he refused to pay £49.00 so went to London, went to the pub before and after but watched the 90 minutes in the pub. He is doing the same in Istanbul.....as it will take a while to ge to and from the ground and we may have to yomp 2km to the fecking stadium, he is going but not to the match

it got me thinking, I dont think I would ever get like this but I sort of know where is coming from. I love pre match in the pub, and win lose or draw the singing after.......games like Villla a few years back we drew but we rocked the pub after, Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final...agfter the sing song was trmendous, Arsenal the past three seasons......And sometimes the football can seem like a chore, and getting beat every week away doesnt help.

Just wondering if others are starting to get pissed off with the high ticket prices.....When teams like Spurs and the like are charging £40+ for a ticket is football in danger of losing its soul...? I think it already had to en extent, it has now gone beyond being a working mans sport, following your team home and away and in europe means you spend a good bit of dosh, that saying we still get a large number of lads who get to euro aways who wont be raking it in.......

if lads like this one are struggling there is trouble

Felt like this for a little while now as I've mentioned before. Ticket prices, Chelsea, new age fans, Chelsea, overpaid players, Chelsea, no sould in the c.lub, Chelsea, foreign investors buying football clubs up as play things, Chelsea.

going to games has changed......people seem far more interested in taking pics on their new mobile phones, or talking on their damn mobile phones.....or fecking playing games on their mobile phones...

Ban mobile phones....then the atmosphere will improve!

A new age fan - buys a copy of the programe, gets the signature of stevie g after the game... then sells it on ebay.

Loves taking pictures of the "stars" on his/her mobile phone

Avoids the bovril and drinks a tall vanilla latte from their starbucks flask.

Thinks the ticket prices come cheap, especially compared to the xbox 360 and ps3 that was bought for the kids the previous day.

There does seem to be a few more not bothering now. Me and a few mates have found it increasingly difficult to get rid of spares recently. I bought two tickets for Wigan away but can't seem to get anyone to take up the other one. Where are all these lads who say, 'i love going the match, but you can't get a ticket'

by the way, going all the way to Istanbul and not going the game is ridiculous!

why? it's what i plan to do. why ruin a perfectly good day by spending f***ing hours going to and from a stadium in the middle of nowhere, with no decent facilities round about (translate to decent pubs round about), watching our reserve team take on a turkish reserve team in an 80,000 stadium with about 10000 people there while i freeze my b****x off? we'll have a good few days, which will probably be enhanced by staying in the boozer.

back to the original point of the thread - i fully sympathise with anny roads mate. i often get to the point where i can't be arsed going and a few times games i'd normally go to i decided would be a better laugh f***ing them off and going into town to watch on the telly and spend my ticket money on beer. It's not just a question of prices though. Now the loyalty thing is going, it's more difficult for lads who go to 2 or 3 games a season to get a ticket and if they can you're not sat together. So in the past where a group of you go the games - some every week, some most of the time and a few some of the time, it's now really only the lads who go a a real regular basis and the rest of the lads just go the pub and nearly always have a better day.

a couple of seasons back i had tickets for newcastle away, i got hammered on the barnes and in the pub for a stop off on the way up there - got to the stadium and knew the walk up the steps in there to watch players about 3 inches in size would not be worth the effort, so i f***ed off the bigg market, carried on drinking, watched it in the pub, got a carry out for the way home and it was one of the best aways i did that season.

There's no point going to the match anymore. I'm jacking it in after this season because the atmosphere that's flat and its too expensive. Stopped going to the away games in the last couple of years.

They are but I refuse to pay the 30-40 pound plus for a match ticket.

I went to Birmingham the other week and there was only a minority singing and the night games in the league cup, are usually when you get a good noise. Our support has become an embarrassment IMO, with aload of clueless soccer am knobs and camera phone numpties everywhere.

sadly since istanbul the euro aways are starting to get like that i think. there was a time i used to really look forward to getting into the centre and a good sing and all that, but there's d****eads everywhere now and we tend to give the big places a swerve these days as you don't know what type of prick you will find in places - it's not like everyone is like that, just that the prick factor is deffo on the increase.

too easy to blame them IMO. i didn't see anyone giving it the 'easy' at Birmingham. I did see alot of pissed up scallies more interested in how much they could drink on the way there and on the way home than the match itself. Lad in front of me didnt watch any of the first half. Just bragged to his mates about how he'd just text n****r to El Haj Diouf

Did anybody hear the Barnsley fan call in to 606 last night, said their tickets are about £25!!!

£25 to watch f***ing Barnsley play?

We think we've got it tough, that is utterly ridiculous.
