IgPig Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 (edited) Echo Reds close in on teen starNov 22 2006 Exclusive By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo LIVERPOOL are close to snapping up Argentina starlet Emiliano Insua in a deal worth around £1m. The 17-year-old left-back arrived on Merseyside today from legendary South American club Boca Juniors. He'll be at Anfield in time to watch tonight's Champions League clash with PSV. It's anticipated he'll initially sign on loan until the end of the season, with the deal agreed to make the move permanent next summer. Insua is part of the exciting Argentine Under-20 side who are currently world champions at their level, and his arrival is part of an ongoing strategy by Rafa Benitez to recruit elite youngsters from across the world and provide a stable foundation for the future of the club. Chief scouts Frank McParland and Eduardo Macia have been entrusted to scour the globe for potential stars of the future. Insua comes into that category, having been spotted excelling for his country's youth team, and there are expected to be more recruits in the New Year. Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona were tracking Insua, but Liverpool were the first to show an interest in the teenager, prompting him to reject recent moves from Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford. There are those at Anfield who believe Insua could challenge for a first team spot before the end of this season, and will certainly be an option in time for the 2007-08 campaign. ---------------- Anyone seen him play? Andy @ Allerton Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Sounds interesting that If we can get him and Palette snapping the Mancs, Chelsea and Everton players in half then it's happy days

CarraLegend Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 He'll become the best left back in the World. Never seen him play or anything but im getting good vibes.
Bigal Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 can i be the first then: what about stephen warnock he's a local lad and loves to get stuck in?
CarraLegend Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 can i be the first then: what about stephen warnock he's a local lad and loves to get stuck in? I like him and he's often very good but then he'll have this game wheres he's absolutely woeful, seems to me the worse team we play the worse he actually plays. Difficult one as he's a decent player who's never had a proper run to see what he's made of but I think we can afford to get rid and by all accounts he wants to go aswell.
Guatered Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 can i be the first then: what about stephen warnock he's a local lad and loves to get stuck in? Can I be the first to reply? ... Cos he isn't very good? Personally I've never seen anything from Warnock to say he's better than a decent stand-in. I'm a bit unclear about what Benitez thinks though- he doesn't play him much yet refused to let him leave in the summer. This new guy- 17 seems very young to be already potentially challenging for a first team spot, especially in defence.
jimmylibel Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Can I be the first to ask what he's like on Football Manager? If he's no good on that what hope has the lad got.

Can I be the second to say I've never seen anything from Warnock to suggest he's going to be a top player. I'd say he's about a David Thompson level player - i.e. good Premiership player, works hard, plenty of heart etc
McBain Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 I've seen him play regularly, know everything about him, and can talk in detail about all aspects of his game. Just dont ask me to prove it
