I hope he's not blaming playing on the right as being the reason to a poor start. He had his best ever season last year on the right.

The reason for poor performances against the likes of Arsenal was that he sulked like a 10 year old from the start of the game. (I might too if it was Zenden taking my place)

Oh well..

Hope he didn't really say ""I spoke with Benitez"

Pretty sure he did. It was an interview after the England-Holland game which I caught a bit of. I hoped I'd missed a bit/misheard and it was actually 'Mr. Benitez', but I'm fairly sure it wasn't. I was disappointed.

Having said that, it was a one off, and I'm sure it was a mistake. He was probably about to say Gaffa, but being on England duty realised that would be ambiguous, and just got a bit tongue tied. That's what I'm assuming anyway.

btw - I hope he plays a blinder wherever.

He's played in the middle a few times already this season and not exactly set the world alight, so I'm not sure what the problem is. He needs to get back to working his socks off and finding some form before worrying about what position he starts in.

So what happens if he's still fecking rubbish in the middle then? What can it be blamed on then?

4x4s?

Great, now we just need to sort out the other ten useless ****'s.

Of course he won't be. He'd started to look miserable out on the right, not nearly involved enough and we'd suffered by not having an attacking threat through the middle.

This will give him a lift and give the whole team a boost.

Like it did on Sunday.

he has been playing badly, predominantly on the right which he has proven to be devastating last season, and if we put him in the middle he'll be good and we'll be good? Not sure this reflects well on him, with the underlying implication he let himself rot to get back to the middle.... My hope is it is his form, with so much football in the past season or two, and given time he'll work himself back, whether on the right or in the middle.

Reina not getting into the opposition half enough times. Carra not taking enough throw ins. Alonso not scoring enough tries... I'm sure there will be plenty of reasons given a fervent enough imagination.

there is a little thing though for all the charlie Nicholas's in the world that thinks if plays in the middle and we win, and it will be "at last benitez gets it" etc etc etc

Its not a fair example is it, the last half hour when we were 2 nil down. Oh but he didn't score or set up a goal so that proves beyond all doubt that he should play on the right ?

At least until Momo is back we need a greater presence there than Zenden. Ok the blend might not be quite right with Alonso and Gerrard there but its the best we've got until Sissoko is fit.

None of thats important though really is it, all that matters is we put out a team that has the best chance of winning.

I agree with what your saying, but steven gerrard and where he plays isnt the most important part of our problems, agger has to play, left and right midfield needs sorting and the front 2.

Your right, we need the whole team to function but sometimes when confidence is low it can take a bit of inspiration from one of your best players to kick start things. As Gerrard is struggling for form and possibly confidence it makes sense for us to make an exception and pander slightly to what will suit him. I wouldn't advocate it in every case but I think this is a special circumstance where we need to think about getting Gerrard back on track. Forget what Andy Gray says and the press bulls***, its about whats best for the team and especially with Momo out, the time is just right to give Gerrard a job in the middle of the park and tell him to win us our first away match. he'll relish the challenge and the rest of the team will buzz off it.

If we don't do something to inject a bit of pace into our midfield and get some goals in this game away at Middlesborough then it'll be a few more weeks before our next away game in the league and confidence could slide further.
