i know its been talked here allready but i want to share opinion.

we all know that since rafa took charge,he changed the scouting system, and is putting more emphasis (sp) on bringing young talents to the club,but...

out of all the youngsters who were brought, not one of them is supposed to be a "world beater".hobbs,paletta,anderson,antwi.they are all good players maybe, but none of them is expected to become a leading player in europe as far as i can tell.

now, what i dont understand is why dont we try to bring the hottest young prospects around, like the scums, arsenal, barca and real madrid are trying.

i know that you will say that there is no insurance (sp) that someone who was amayzing when he was 13 will be amayzing when he is 25.but still, there is more chance the a 13 year old wonderkid will be a top player then someone who didnt show that much promise in his younger years.

from what i understand, anderson is the brightest prospect in our youth team, but does anyone really believe he will become a very good 1 team player?

i look at barca, they have much.much, much more money to spend on transfers then we do,but still, they are investing in bringing all those 10.13,15 year olds wonderkids.if their youth team has 5 wonderkids, and just one of them turns out to be a "world class" player, and the others turns out to be mediocre, they are still earning (sp).

it seems to me that we are only looking for the good 16-17 year olds, and not the 11-16 wonderkids and i dont understand why...

i just saw barca are on the verge of signing a 11 year old wonderkid from turky.i saw some clips of him,was very very impressed.true, clips are not so relient, but it is a risk we must take!lets say that only one out of 10 wonderkids turns out to be really really good, its still worth it.

sorry for the long massage :-)

I'd like us to take the chance on bringing class young players from South America over when they are young. Barca got Messia nd have Dos Santos coming through by doing this i think.

The @rse can recruit good young talent because they see the opportunity to play and be given a chance. That's why in the past 12 months they have aquired Walcott and the ex-Barca youngster (can't remember his name. We have brought in some youngsters since Rafa has been here but I'm not too sure how good they are? However, at Arsenal Wenger has given the likes of Fabregas, Clichy, Eboue a chance to play and establish themselves in the first team at a vey young age. We just wouldn't do that.

as i understand it steve heighway is not keen at supplementing the academy with young foreign talent - which is why you see us going in to buy lads at 16/17 as we have in recent years. they are rafa's buys to supplement the lack of talent coming through from the academy, it's down to heighway to bring them in before that. maybe he thinks it's unethical? perhaps he doesn't have the budget. whatever the reason, he's the man making the choice.

Rafa should get some say in to what happens at the Academy.

Hope that new fella at the Academy we got from Southampton is gonna get us more foreign talent younger. He's meant to be bending the rules like every club apart from us has been doing for years.

to be fair it would be a lot easiler for a young south american to adapt in spain than in cold england.

I'm sure we do try. Weather they come or not is a different story.

United?

Who have they brought through since the youth team that produced Giggs, Beckham etc etc?

Richardson? Dont make me laugh

Our problem is we are buying players and cutting out the academy......as Rafas doesnt have a say in it this is a problem........

South americans coming in at youth stage?

I wouldnt, throughout our history its shown that the youngsters from the area that come through and make it are the best.

They have the heart for it and give a sense of pride and affinity to the fans

The advantage Barca have is that like Ajax their academy is residential. The young players they sign up from 12/13 go and live there. It wouldn't be morally or economically feasible for us to transfer a load of 12/13 year olds over here on the off chance that one of them made it.

Also, Messi wasn't signed from South America, his family moved to Spain when he was young.

they dont neccesery (sp) succeed, but they got pique and they are constantly eing linked with kid prodigys in the media.

and barca have much more then just messi and dos santos.they have iago, krkic, assulin and a few others that will be top players in 5-6 years time.

which young lads are supposed to be top top players coming through the academy?i have heard the names pepper and morgan, but not even sure if they are real...

and the kids doesnt have to be from south america...ythey can be from germany,spain,italy,serbia...and dont tell me barca are giving their youngsters more chances then us.surley a young player dont believe he will beat ronaldinho or etoo or messi to the first team, but they still go to barca.

Why is it morally OK for Ajax and Barca but not us ?

lets not forget the competition is to play in london, barcelana, madrid, or 'up norf'. I mean, the scum haven't exactly been hoarding the youngsters have they?

As for our youth players, how do you know that anderson, hobbs et al won't make it?

Finally, we are looking at the players too, Bale and Barnes to name two that we are in for. However, with every other club also looking at them, its difficult. Ironically, its the one market that chelsea cannot corner, as most young players know what happens if you go there.

I also think we are suffering from the Houllier effect too, of not playing youngsters.

Remember Wenger has had 10 years at arsenal of pilfering other teams and ignoring his youth team. at least rafa is trying to do things the right way by maintaining a heart to the team

Because they have residential academies. They're put up in dorms a bit like a boarding school. We don't have that set-up, we'd have to put him in digs. It's a bit much to ask a 13-year-old lad to live with an unknown family in a new country where he doesn't know the language.

That or you could move the entire family over, that's when it becomes economically unjustifiable.

So as long as your linked with freddie Adu and buy Pique (who is setting the world alight) then thats ok

tbh I would rather buy the likes of Hobbs who have a chance

Messi and the like are one offs really

If you're gonna mention Palletta, why not bring up Agger and Sissoko?

Last time we bought wonderkids, it didn't turn out that well...

Posted

Liverpool have never been about buying wonderkids, under Paisley and Dalglish we allways got the right players in at the right time. However, back then we had the money to buy those quality players.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Obviously I'm jealous of Wenger's set up at the a*** (their U21 Carling Cup teams have been sensational to watch the last two seasons), but he's been there almost 10 years. It's not something that can be turned around in two years.

let's not forget FSP, ALT...

For every 30 or so 'wonderkids', about 1* makes it.

* figures completely made up by Macca

We need to spread our resources. I'm not displeased with Rafa's trophy haul so far & am looking fwd to a night of singing & celebrating in Athens, come May
