Reina - 6 Did what he could. Unlucky on the nutmeg and a good save.

Finnan - 6 Solid. I did fear on occasions that he might have been swallowed forever by the enormous black hole in front of him on the right.

Carragher - 5.5 All right, but could and should have been sent off. Silly boy.

Hyypiä - 5 All right for the most part -- we weren't really ripped apart for the whole game or anything -- but Jesus, that goal.

Riise - 5.5 All right.

González - 5 Lacking in imagination, to be kind.

Gerrard - 4.5 Don't know what was up with him. No doubt an explanation will surface after the fact again, but apart from him seeming not to be up for it, from the reactions of his team-mates it looked very much like he was instructed to keep width on the right or at least inside right and kept forgetting. Maybe he thinks he should be playing in the middle...

Alonso - 6.5 Heart. Honesty.

Zenden - 4.5 Stuck at the role he was given but had a crap, crap day.

Crouch. - 5 Ditto, except didn't cost us a goal.

Kuijt - 5.333 Busied himself as much as he could but hardly featured. Honesty.

 

Pennant - not really on long enough but he certainly wasn't on fire.

I'm surprised Alonso is getting good marks. I felt that the main problem today was the failure of any of our midfielders to take the responsibility for moving the ball forward, instead of just passing it back all the time. Alonso was the worst of them for this, IMO.

Gerrard - 4 One of his worst games for us

Alsono - 9 People probably won't notice, but this was one of his best games for us, barely gave the ball away and won back loads of ball.

Zenden - 3 Gave the ball away 90% of the time he had it

Crouch. - 6 Did what he was in the team to do, let down by others

Kuyt - 8 worked his b******s off and looked like one of the few capable of creating anything

Alonso 6 - Started to dictate the game with some remnance of passing

Zenden 3 - Should only play against lower sides

Gonzales 4 - Looks lightweight and was in Eboue's pocket all game

Crouch 5 - Tried hard

Kuyt 6 - Tried harder than Crouch, thus stayed on

 

Pennant 5 - Not the worst player on the pitch (this is not a compliment)

Bellamy 4 - Poor ball control, low confidence, no contribution, should have stayed onside easily for simple head in

 

Benitez 3 - Started the game with 2 central midfielders and Gerrard 'floating' in the middle. Finnan was told to stay back thus left us totally, and I mean TOTALLY, lopsided going forward. Arsenal just took two steps to their right to defend against us. It was too easy for them. If Pennant was to play any part in this game he should have started with Gerrard/Alonso in the middle. This was a no-brainer that Rafa got dreadfully wrong.

Think our perfomance was looking a lot better until they scored. Then the "scores" here started to plummet ...

 

Reina - 8: excellent performance from a player that just let in three goals

Finnan - 6: seemed under orders or else afraid to venture forward much but otherwise was fairly solid

Carra: - 5: should have been sent off for that second challenge, fairly average at best otherwise

Hyypia - 5: Probably starting to feel his place is now slipping away to Agger, looked very exposed at times

Riise - 5: Like Finnan, wasn't venturing forward much and wasn't much of a presence otherwise

Gerrard - 4: awful attitude for the first half, improved a bit in the second but contributed little or nothing overall. (Why did he just watch Gallas score?)

Alonso - 9: tidiest game whilst under a lot of pressure and getting little or no support or options around him.

Zenden - 5: kept busy, got into good positions occasionally but wasted far too many balls and failed to impose himself.

Gonzalez - 5: kept busy, tracked back but hadn't a clue what to do going forward. Looks confused at times.

Crouch - 5: wasn't offering a whole lot either, Arsenal athletic defence had him subdued almost totally

Kuyt - 7: ran out of steam in the end but was, for the most part, at least showing for the ball and taking up good positions.

More likely you're just scoring on the bits you liked rather than the whole game.

The whole team was a disgrace and ffs we need a captain as Gerrard isn't up to the job.

Gerrard reminded me alot of Cisse tonight. ZERO workrate, moaning and whinging at everything, he just doesn't look happy at all. I dont know if taking the responsibility of being captain away from him will help at all, but if Rafa was to strip him of the captains job, i would really give Xabi a crack at it. Whether he is on or off form, he NEVER complains and ALWAYS gives 100%. A real inspiration, and today's performance was one of Xabi's best in a red shirt in a long long time.
