New York Red Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 My God, what planet is he from? He thinks that women can't be match officials because of their gender? Does he feel the same way about blacks or Asians? They don't fit his narrow minded stereotype so they need to be prevented from officiating? He's a complete idiot. I'd f*cking sack him faster than you could say Jack Robinson if I owned Luton.
_00_deathscar Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 But he's right...women don't understand footie.
madaboutlfc Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 he is right.. when we start having women playing in the premiership.. theyre welcome
meepins Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 My God, what planet is he from? He thinks that women can't be match officials because of their gender? I'd f*cking sack him faster than you could say Jack Robinson if I owned Luton.I truly believe that women would be significantly better match officials than men.
Morris Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I truly believe that women would be significantly better match officials than men. On what basis?
Ombudsam Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I don't know what he said word for word but i caught the gist of it on radio I think. If he said that women couldn't officiate due to their gender then he is bang out of order.
Guest Kev Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I've got no problem with women officials providing they are upto to the task. I've noticed over the last few games that quite a few linesmen are not up with play on a regular basis.
madaboutlfc Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I truly believe that women would be significantly better match officials than men.apart from being pleasing on the eye.... in some case... how can you make that statement.. women on average are physically weaker and slower then men.. I think there is more chance of a woman being bullied as well
John am Rhein Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 This political correctness is all very well, but we'll all regret it if some SchiedsrichterIN fails to give Liverpool a penalty because she was too busy thinking about how many pairs of new shoes she'll be able to buy the following afternoon.
Rimbeux Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Why do so many managers and fans focus so much on officials. debatable/wrong decisions are part of sport, as much as player and manager mistakes. Sort your own a*** out, control the controllables, Newell is speaking absolute nonsense
Snookie Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 (edited) Newell quoted in the Observer. "She should not be here,' Newell said. 'I know that sounds sexist, but I am sexist, so I am not going to be anything other than that. We have a problem in this country with political correctness, and bringing women into the game is not the way to improve refereeing and officialdom.' He added: 'It is absolutely beyond belief. When do we reach a stage when all officials are women, then we are in trouble. It is bad enough with the incapable referees and linesmen we have, but if you start bringing in women, you have big problems. It is tokenism, for the politically correct idiots.'"' An idiotic fool with Neanderthal attitudes Edited November 12, 2006 by snookiejane
Nerik Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 If it is a case of a woman being too slow to keep up with the game then that should be tackled on an individual basis rather than ban all women from officiating. The way the game is developing it is very hard for any ref male or female to keep up. As for linesmen it is less of a problem. That has more to do with positioning and anticipation of play. Newell is bang out of order. We have had hopeless male refs for decades so to have a go at women after a few games in charge is silly.
Guest Portly Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Newell is dead right. The world has gone mad. Why should women want to officiate in men's football matches?
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 My God, what planet is he from? He thinks that women can't be match officials because of their gender? Does he feel the same way about blacks or Asians? They don't fit his narrow minded stereotype so they need to be prevented from officiating? He's a complete idiot. I'd f*cking sack him faster than you could say Jack Robinson if I owned Luton. Women should be at home doing the cooking, cleaning the house up and doing the ironing. He's spot on - imagine trying to run the line with an ironing board. Madness I tells ye
Tones Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 (edited) If she was better than the male officals then fair enough. You have to wonder though, has she been brought in just to be different. To make the game not sexist. to break barriers etc. Cos that would be wrong. It should go to the best person no mater gender or race etc they are from. Edited November 12, 2006 by t1971
£440,000 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 The FA are going to investigate what he said. That's ridiculous. What he said was wrong but I don't see how it could be sanctionable.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 surely it should be merit based? And with the likes of Riley & Poll out there, dogs would probably have a good chance
Nebraska Red Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 surely it should be merit based? And with the likes of Riley & Poll out there, dogs would probably have a good chance i think you are being disrepectful to dogs. what decent collie wants to be compared to the likes of Poll?
meepins Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 apart from being pleasing on the eye.... in some case... how can you make that statement.. women on average are physically weaker and slower then men.. I think there is more chance of a woman being bullied as wellThat was such a generalised statement. I should have said the current male officials because they are so poor. That may be damning with faint praise but the current state of officiating is really poor and I think that it can only go up from here.
New York Red Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 There are plenty of officials who have never played competetive football, so that as a prerequisite for the job is meaningless. Therefore it is down to this: Are they fit enough? Are they fast enough?Do they know the rules well enough? Can they stand up to aggression from players? Can they make decisions accurately and quickly? Evidenly this idiot Mike Newell thinks that you need to have a c*ck also for some reason. The man is a moron of the highest order. They should get rid of this t*sser now.
Morris Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 If women had there own sport, played by women, officated by women, governed by women, you would get the exact same response from them if men started trying to get involved in their sport. They would be moaning their arses off at the first opportunity. So f***ing what if Newell said it.

Morris Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 (edited) Prove it How can i prove it? Obviously thats your point, i can't. Too many of the PC brigade in the media and on this forum make mountains out of molehills.Any comments to do with race, sex, religion that the middle class liberals don't like and there out to get the perpetrator instantly.
